Elysian Fields Retreat

Spending three days in the Romanian countryside, surrounded by animals and a breath-taking view, is an ideal way to effectively reduce stress, unwind and relax, and that is precisely what we’ve done these past couple of days. Sadu is a rather small village in Sibiu County, Romania. The archaeological discoveries carried out on the territory of the village demonstrate that man existed here since the Middle Ages. Additionally, Greek and medieval coins were discovered in a grave dated prior the construction of the church, the thesaurus dating back to the 16th and the 17th century. The village’s economy is mainly based on agriculture, with people focusing on animal husbandry and land cultivation. We decided to spend a couple of days in Sadu, not necessarily visiting the village, but reading and taking in whatever nature has to offer.

THE ACCOMODATION
The Tiny House is situated in Sadu and it offers a piece of peace, quite literally. The accommodation fits two people and is equipped with everything one needs: kitchen utensils (pans and pots, coffee mugs, coffee machine, toaster, a fridge), access to the grill area, a swaying chair, an extremely comfortable queen-size bed, a spacious shower and a hot tub (which was a must for us) and other facilities. Some personal touches make the house even more welcoming. It is also important to note that there is free parking on the premise. While the tiny house offers all these, the most astonishing thing is the view: as soon as you wake up and open your eyes, the Transylvanian hills are there, weather covered in fog or basking under the sun, waiting for you to admire their splendour.

THE COMPANY
As soon as we arrived, we were not only welcomed by our hosts, but by a lovely and playful dog as well. He continuously visited us, weather for scratches or for some other mysterious reason beyond humans’ capability to understand, and that, for us, dog lovers, was very entertaining. While dogs can make others uncomfortable, we enjoyed being around him and secretly giving him treats. There are a couple of hens in the yard, which is always a nice view for someone loving rural areas, and we were also visited at some point by a cat.

THE HOSTS
Maria and Raul were extremely kind and accommodating from the moment they opened the gates for us, showing us around, giving us local recommendations and making sure we feel welcome. Raul heated the hot tub and was eager to help with everything we needed while Maria offered us small gifts, for which we are thankful (especially for the cake that suited the occasion). Despite everything mentioned, they have a huge respect for their guests’ privacy, which must be appreciated.

Conclusively, we enjoyed being around them and just taking in as much as we could of what Mother Nature had to offer. If you are looking for a place to spend a couple of days enjoying whatever the seasons have to offer or reading in the swaying chair with a mug of coffee or hot tea, or perhaps tasting a bit of the Romanian countryside, the Tiny House and its surroundings is what you are looking for.
