Tim: A Growing Up Tale for Grown-ups Who Remember… by Canadian Author L.L. Rose has been gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. The Book follows Atlas, an eleven years old boy, on his journey to figuring out life and how to be a good friend, boyfriend, a role model for his younger brother and, ultimately, a grown-up person. Having no one to address his many questions and issues, one day his idol, Tim Horton, a renowned Canadian hockey player, visits him through the bathroom mirror.

The book is very well written and helpful for young readers, emphasizing not only the manner in which we should ask questions, but which questions have to be asked in order to safely manage to sort out the problems and misunderstandings encountered on the journey to maturity. One thing I appreciated, besides the diversity of characters (and how inclusive the book is!), was how the author manages to clearly and effectively express the main character’s thoughts. Although Atlas is the protagonist of the book, Tim Horton play a major role as well, he is some sort of a life-coach appearing in the bathroom mirror teaching Atlas about essential skills such as compassion, understanding and compromising. The author uses a child narrator in a book for “grow-ups who remember” in order to explore family situations and broader societal issues, their naive approach often shedding a new light on matters raging from emotions like love, grief andfear.

If I am being completely honest, I don’t think I have ever read a book like this one, touching on the subject of Growing up and maturity, which only made me want to read Tim: A Growing Up Tale for Grown-ups Who Remember… even more. I really enjoyed reading it, it was a fast paced and heart-warming book. I can only recommend it to anyone, of all ages, looking for a light read filled with wisdom. You can find more information regarding the book on the author’s website by clicking here.
