A transparent cover is assembled at the top of the head; sometimes it is attached to the lens, to protect the bulb and to reflect the light source. A switch is placed on the handle of the flashlight for turning it on and off.

The Future of Flashlight

Our world is constantly changing with new innovative technologies. With all these changes around, a lot has changed for a typical flashlight. LED flashlights have taken over the traditional incandescent bulb flashlights. From the body material to the lens, there has been a significant change in today’s flashlight.

What is a flashlight made of and things you should know about them

LED flashlights are commonly considered to be unbreakable, a life time lamp which does not need any replacing. An LED flashlight is designed elegantly, so even today’s generations use it without feeling any discomfort or embarrassment from using the brass body of a typical flashlight.

Body

LED flashlights have similar tube shape handle but with a slight change. The body is of an aluminum alloy, which in turn has made the body considerably lighter. The body is also available in a variety of sizes for your use. From the size of a flashlight needed for your trekking adventure to a miniature size used as a keychain. A typical LED flashlight is about six inches. This tube houses other parts of the torch, including the batteries. Most of the manufacturers have even made a waterproof body for the flashlight, with a range of around 100 meters. Due the use of an aluminum alloy, the flashlights have a high resistant to damage caused by impacts. There is a unique feature in some of the bodies like controlling the brightness of the light by simply rotating the head of the flashlight. But again this will defer from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Lens

Typically a transparent plastic cover was placed over the head in the traditional flashlight to protect the light bulb. The lens has an upgrade in an LED flashlight; temper glass is in place replacing the previous cover. It is highly resistant and withstands impact, so the LED bulb remains unharmed.

Bulbs

The traditional flashlights used incandescent bulbs but in today’s time, we all prefer light-emitting diode commonly known as LED. The flashlights normally have a single LED bulb or cluster of 6 or more LEDs. It emits a bluish white light, as it has a higher Kelvin scale compared to an incandescent bulb.

Switch

The one thing which doesn’t change is the on and off switch. And we sure are happy about it. The LED flashlights still do have some other features along with the switch which differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. With its help, we can even flicker the light to attract attention when needed.

Batteries

With the invention of rechargeable batteries, our lives sure have been welcoming. The LED flashlights use rechargeable batteries for the current to pass through the bulb for the output of light. Not all flashlight rely on batteries, well they do in a sort of way. Some flashlights have a non-removable battery that is charged through a USB port. It’s the same as charging your mobile phones. Like always we still provide you with a picture for your understanding. Like they say “believe what you see.”

All these part together help to make a flashlight work, let it be the traditional or the new generation. Team work will make us glow in the dark.

Conclusion

The lighting facts end here for now guys. We hope this article has been a help to you in understanding what is a flashlight made of. Flashlights are useful in our lives, and they change, so we will be there to write again about it.
