The Rainy Season

Apparently this year has been the wettest anyone can remember. The devastating Floods in central Vietnam that killed many and washed away thousands of homes are testament to that. So the flooding we’ve had in HCMC is a mere inconvenience. However I roof a few videos of my street (well I don’t actually own it but I live there so it’s my street!).

The street flooded and dry within 2 hours!

The videos give some idea of how deep the water was:

I still decided it would be a good idea to ride through them as I needed to get to work.  I did have the foresight to wear shorts and flip flops with my work trousers in a bag.  However these floods killed the beast (my motorbike). It’s had at least 5 trips to the garage since and I’m still not sure it’s sorted. Fortunately if it’s just a repair without parts it costs between £1 and £1.50. Though I ruined the electric starter by trying to start it continually when it was full of water so that cost £8 and I needed a new carburettor which was £7. I’ve spent so much on the bike I could have bought a brand new one but I sways think “well I’ve spent this much so I may as well get it fixed again”

Next time it breaks down it’s going to the great garage in the sky and I’ll probably cry at the wasted money haha.
