Last week I had the incredible opportunity to see Kinky Boots on the West End and go backstage to meet the cast, after winning a competition with London Theatre Direct on Twitter. 

I decided to invite my lovely friend Katie to come with me, as we always see shows together when we’re in London, and neither of us had seen this show before!
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when going to see this show. I had heard of it and I’d seen a small segment of it that had been performed at West End Live in June, but other than that I had no idea at all what the story was about or what to expect from the music. So I was pretty excited to be able to see it without having any expectations going into it!

We went to an evening show on Thursday, August 17th, and it was honestly one of the BEST nights of my life. I don’t even know where to begin explaining how much I loved everything about the show!!

Let me just start by talking about our seats. Seriously, our seats were amazing!! The seats we were put in were better than I ever expected and definitely so much better than I would ever be able to afford if I had to pay for them myself – as far as I’m aware the seats we were in (Stalls, Row F, 9 & 10) usually cost £75 each! – I think I’ll stick to restricted view grand circle tickets whilst funds are limited thank you! It was so amazing to be able to sit in such good seats, the acoustics from where we were sitting were honestly just brilliant, and we had such a great view!

The show was so unbelievably incredible. It’s hard to write about without giving away what happens, but it’s so high energy and leaves you with such a huge smile on your face, you really MUST see this show if you’re a theatre fan. If glitz, glam, drag queens and absolute BOPS are your thing, you’re sure to enjoy it! At the end of the show, most of the row I was in were up on their feet clapping along to the music. It’s such a different show to the shows I was used to seeing before this. I CANNOT SING THIS SHOW’S PRAISES ENOUGH!!! GO. SEE. IT! I will definitely be going to see it again at some point… my birthday… maybe???

After the show, we were taken backstage, where we were introduced to two of the lovely wardrobe ladies, who were there to help us get into our own pair of Kinky Boots. Yes, you read that correctly, we got to TRY ON THE BOOTS!! How many people can say they had that opportunity! 

The cast were waiting for us on the stage when we walked on, and despite feeling slightly overwhelmed at so many tall, beautiful people surrounding me, every single one of them was so incredibly kind and welcomed us with open arms. All of the cast were asking us questions and talking to us about where we were from and how we had come to win the competition, at one point I’m sure someone was even talking about dancing. I felt bad that we didn’t have a super long time, so I didn’t get the opportunity to talk to each person as much as I’d like to, and I really hope it didn’t make me come across as rude or uninterested, but it really was such an amazing experience to be able to have and I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone at Kinky Boots and London Theatre Direct for the opportunity!

We decided to still go to stage door even after our meet and greet, as we really wanted to have the chance to let everyone know how much we adored the show and how great they were, so we headed round after leaving the theatre to try and catch some people on their way out, which we were quite successful with!!!

I’m so sorry if this post seems rambly, but I truly had the most INCREDIBLE evening, it’s so hard to even find the words to describe how much I loved the show and the cast and everything about my experience! It was one of the best nights of my life and such an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity that I will definitely never forget!
