Amsterdam|April 19th, 2017

Welcome back, guys!

I recently returned home from another trip to Amsterdam and I had such a fun time! The weather was so nice (although, it was quite cold), and we had such a relaxed, unplanned day just shopping, exploring and enjoying the short break away from Newcastle.

This trip was my third visit to Amsterdam in six months… I’ve kind of fallen in love with this city. However, I’m yet to go for longer than a day at a time, I have no doubt I will one day though!

Once again, we took the DFDS Mini Cruise where we travelled from 5pm on Tuesday evening, spending the day from around 10am in Amsterdam, and then travelling back overnight and arriving back in Newcastle at 9am. It’s such an affordable way to travel it only cost us £77 for two people and we took our own food on the ship so we could avoid paying their prices!

We didn’t really plan our day out as neither of us could think of anything we specifically wanted to do, so we decided to wing it. We tried to find areas of the city that we hadn’t seen before without straying too far away from the areas we knew, so we wouldn’t get massively lost. When we got off the coach into the city centre we started to walk down a couple of streets we didn’t recognise to see where they would take us. They mostly ended up taking us to shopping streets and eventually to Dam Square – where we had been a lot of times – but they were super pretty so we couldn’t complain!

From Dam Square we headed towards the canals to soak in the surroundings and explore some more. We ended up coming across the Bloemenmarkt, I had wanted to go to this because I wanted to buy some Tulips to take home (I know, so touristy!) and so we decided to take a look around!

I didn’t actually end up buying anything because they didn’t have the colour tulips that I wanted. I kind of regret it now though because I came home and bought some and they cost me double the amount they would have cost in Amsterdam.

After looking around the flower market we went for some food, and from there we headed back towards Central Station, as we had decided over lunch that we wanted to go on a Canal Cruise. This turned out to be the best decision ever as it was an hour long, so once the cruise was over we were able to quickly run over to where the buses stop in order to get back to the ferry!

I really enjoyed the canal cruise, we ended up seeing parts of the city that we probably never would have thought about going to if we hadn’t got on it. I ended up with some amazing photos that I know I would never have been able to get any other way than from the canal, so I’m super happy about that!

I also filmed a few clips whilst on the canal cruise that I edited together to make a little short video.

As always, I had such a good time on my trip to Amsterdam. I’m sure I’ll be back there again soon as it has truly become one of my favourite cities in the world!
