Hashtags are a great way to be discovered by other Instagrammers who are interested in the same topics as you. For example, if you take a photo of a pizza, some relevant hashtags might be, Instagram tips:

Have a variety of content. Whether it’s a mix of different types of photos (think: selfies, object close-ups, landscape shots) or alternating between photo and video posts, it’s always good to have a diverse feed.

One of the most frustrating things about using Instagram as a writer is realizing that people don’t always read what you write in the caption field—especially if they’re following you on both Instagram and Twitter, and they happen to see your photos via Twitter first. The first step to creating great photos is to shoot in RAW format. To do this on an iPhone, open the Settings app, then go to Camera > Formats and select “Most Compatible.” On Android devices, you can enable RAW format from the camera settings in Instagram.

This is a missed opportunity. You might not know anyone on Instagram yet, but if you could get an invite, you’d probably start using it right away. Then once you have 5 or 10 friends on there, you’ll use it frequently and get hooked. This is how all networks start.

I’ve found myself in several situations where I wanted to show someone Instagram, but they couldn’t follow me until they had friends on there already. This is exactly the wrong time for a chicken-and-egg problem like this! If someone wants to follow me, they should be able to do so immediately, without having to add friends first, and without having to wait for an invite.

Instagram says that it is taking measures to ensure that these hashtag trends include those that are safe, so you will only see topical ones and not ones related to harmful or hateful content, which could be offensive or disturbing.

In addition, if you’re a creator who uses Instagram for business, you can also find Hashtag Trends in your Business Tools within Business Manager. This way, you will be able to see what’s trending by category or location so that you can post relevant content for your followers and adjust timely posts as needed.

For example, if there is an ongoing event or news about a sports team in your area, you can use the Trending hashtags to get involved in trending conversations with relevant hashtags and boost engagement on your posts.

On Instagram, I’m known as @humansofny. I started the page in 2010 and it has grown to have a following of over 15 million people. I use the page to tell stories of New Yorkers. I post a photo and a caption every day.

The captions are interviews that I conduct on the streets of New York City. The interview subjects range from current world leaders to homeless drug addicts, but the captions are always honest and straightforward.

I’m not a professional photographer, nor do I play one on the Internet. And yet, somehow people like my photos? Well, maybe it’s because I follow these tips every time I shoot and share.

Nail the shot before you post-process: You’re no Ansel Adams (yet), so don’t rely on Instagram filters and adjustments to save a subpar picture. Take your time and get the perfect shot before you even think about editing it. The more you practice this, the better your shots will be without any post-processing at all.

Then it’s OK to edit: With the right filter and tweaks, you can turn a decent photo into an amazing one. But remember that Instagram is not Photoshop: Don’t overdo it! My favorite filters are Clarendon for outdoorsy scenes or Sierra for portraits (or food) because they make colors pop without looking fake or over-processed.

The way to grow your following is to post consistently. If you go for a long time without posting, people lose interest and unfollow. I try to post once per day. It doesn’t have to be a new photo, it can be an older one that you like but never posted. You can also repost or regram posts of other users that you find interesting.

The feed should have some kind of cohesion and flow. Some photos are just not appropriate for Instagram and shouldn’t be added. For example, if it’s a photo of your breakfast, maybe keep it to yourself unless it’s really beautiful and appetising! Some people like to make a theme for their feed but personally I don’t think this makes for the most interesting feed. It’s important to have variety in your feed!

If you use hashtags on your photos, they will appear on the pages of those hashtags, which are followed by a lot of people who might like your work! So if you have a photo of a tree and add the hashtag

Don’t try to do everything at once

Focus on doing one thing really well. Find a core feature that will get users hooked and build from there. It’s okay if you don’t get everything right in the beginning; you can iterate as you go along.

* Some times work better than others, as a rule of thumb (for most brands) 2pm CST seems to perform better than any other time for us.

5. Experiment with filters, but be consistent.

* Don’t switch between Valencia and X-Pro II too much; find one filter you like, and stick to it (if you want).

Why Instagram?

The first rule of Instagram is that everyone on Instagram is an idiot.

Instagram is, in its own way, a work of art. It’s beautiful and simple, but it’s also stupid, childish and silly. I love it. But I hate using the official app. In fact, I don’t even have it installed any more because I find it so annoying to use on a daily basis.

So for the past few months I’ve been using an alternative called 6tag which was built by someone from the Windows Phone community who really understands what makes a good camera app. You can download it for free from the Windows Phone store and if you’re like me you’ll never look back.

So here are my tips for getting the most out of your Instagram experience on Windows Phone:

1) Use 6tag instead of the official app

2) If you use 6tag then you can upload photos at full resolution (2048px on the long edge instead of 640px)

3) If you use 6tag then you can upload videos (up to 60 seconds long)

4) If you want to know when your friends post something new then download Instance which shows everyone’s posts in chronological order (and also lets you post videos)

One thing I did was to take a photo of something I liked and try to replicate it. Sometimes, when you see something beautiful, you can’t quite figure out what it is that makes it so. Taking a photo of it will allow you to study the elements of composition and lighting at your leisure and hopefully make some progress in understanding why it works.

I also like to take a photo of simple things, like a chair or a light switch, that I’ve never really looked at before. It’s surprising how many different ways there are to put an image together out of these elements. So if you’re stuck, take a photo of something you’ve seen hundreds of times — it’ll be new again.

1) Don’t use the flash. You’re better off using natural light or a tripod and long exposure.

2) Avoid digital zoom at all costs. The quality of your photo will suffer greatly. Use your feet to zoom instead!

3) Remember that grain is good! Photos with some grain look more natural than super-smooth shots.

4) Don’t hesitate to use both hands when taking a photo—it will keep the camera steady and prevent motion blur. Also, try leaning against a wall for added stability.

5) If you see something you like, snap it! Take several photos of everything and then choose the best one later. It’s better to have too many photos than not enough!

The way to be good at social media is the way to be good at anything: practice. And the way to practice is to get feedback. You need a group of people who see what you post and let you know what they think of it. I’ve seen people suggest a few thousand followers on Twitter or Facebook as a minimum for effective feedback from social media. But I don’t think that’s a very good metric.

It’s better to have 100 people who are interested in what you do and pay attention to what you say than 10,000 who aren’t really paying attention. So the first thing I would recommend is not spending too much time trying to get thousands of followers on Twitter or Facebook until you have something worth paying attention for.

1. Use a camera instead of a phone. The iPhone’s point-and-shoot camera, while excellent, is still limited in its ability to capture the world in all its beauty and variety.

2. Know your subject. Before you go into a situation, have some idea of what you’re interested in shooting, and think about how you can capture it as simply and clearly as possible. This means taking time to look around, to really see what’s happening before you start snapping away.

3. Find the light. Good lighting can make or break a photo. For example, when I was photographing the March on Washington recently I kept my back to the sun so that faces wouldn’t be obscured by shadows.

4. Frame your shot with care. Take a moment before pressing the shutter button to compose your image thoughtfully—considering both the foreground and background—rather than just firing away randomly. Place your subject off-center; this will allow for more negative space and make for a more interesting composition.

I’ve been using Instagram for years now and have learned a few things. Here are the four most important ones: 1. Don’t post too often

When I first started on Instagram, I would post a photo every day. This was annoying to my followers and eventually, I lost half my followers.

2. Post regularly

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, you should post on a regular basis. It’s not as often as when I first began but it is still pretty frequent. I usually post once per day, sometimes twice.

3. Use filters

Instagram has some great filters you can use to make your photos more interesting and unique. Use them! The ones with the least amount of effect are “Lux” and “Willow.”

4. Be creative with captures

This may sound silly but it’s true: People love photos that are unique or have an interesting composition or subject matter

5) When taking action shots, use burst mode by holding down the shutter button (the first 10 shots will be taken at 10 fps–the next 10 are taken at a slower rate

I just spoke to a group of high school students about Instagram, and I realized that in the process of learning everything I know about it over the last two years, I’ve picked up some very random tips. Here are some of my favorites.

It’s generally easier to connect with celebrities than you might think.

If you want to connect with someone who doesn’t follow you, like a lot of their photos over a short period of time. If they notice you enough, they’ll check out your profile and see if they want to follow you back.

Instagram is actually better on Android than iOS (in terms of features). If you’re an iPhone user and have never tried Instagram on Android, it’s worth checking out.

Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world that are sharing things you love. Join the community of over 500 million people and express yourself by sharing all the moments of your day–the highlights and everything in between, too.
