A BRIEF OVERVIEW-

Things were never the same for five ordinary individuals who got struck at cross roads and there was no way they can run back. They had no other choice but to take a plunge into their deepest fear and leave the rest to destiny. Their characters was tested out of their comfort zone and it witnessed abstruse results; a PhD scholar fights to win a pizza making contest and a tennis prodigy running for his life in a war torn , bloodied Island.
Extreme circumstances and their consequences made these ordinary individuals extraordinary. Was the test imposed on them by someone? Or did they invite it on themselves. The Blue Moon Day is that once in a Blue Moon day story which questions an individual’s priorities, ridicules the worldly routines and finally redefines happiness.

THE TITLE

You probably use the idiom “once in a blue moon” to describe something that happens only rarely. You might have even hummed along with the song “Blue Moon” by Billie Holiday or taken a sip of the Belgian-style beer called “Blue Moon.” We hear about this mysterious blue moon all the time, but do we even understand what it really is? A “Blue Moon” is a fairly infrequent phenomenon involving the appearance of an additional full moon within a given period. A Blue Moon is defined as the third full moon in a season that has four full moons. Called a seasonal Blue Moon, this occurs about every 2.5 years, according to NASA. Seasons normally have three full moons, and some of them, for traditional and religious reasons, must occur at specific times of the year. So, the “Moon before Yule” is always the one before Christmas.

But how is The Blue moon related to the plot?

Our key to greatness lies not in our ability to project ourselves to others as if we are putting ourselves onto a projector and creating an image of ourselves on a projector screen. Rather, our key to greatness lies in who we are which we can give to other people in a way that when they walk away from us, they are able to say in their hearts that they have taken away something with them quite extraordinary. It’s like I am inside this ethereal sphere wherein exists no logic, no reasoning, no typicality, no explanations, no realism, no comparisons, nothing ordinary, and no normalcy. And then if you are to understand me, you have to step into my realm and leave all of those things behind. I’m not typical. I’m not ordinary. And I’m not normal. And I never will be ‎. So I don’t see the point of waking up in the morning and wishing to be so.

The author has very beautifully portrayed the title keeping the plot at the backdrop. Risk is everywhere and we all do take risk everyday, knowingly or unknowingly. Ordinary risk produces ordinary men and extraordinary risk equals extraordinary men. The unique line of boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary is the risk they both take. Great and extraordinary people patiently take a visionary, calculated and an avant-garde risk regardless of the susurrant and cacophonic call of the masses to retreat. They fall, they learn and they move. Without taking a thoughtful risk, we risk our lives unthoughtfully each day.

REVIEW OF THE BOOK-

The book very beautifully focuses on the word circumstances, if you wait for circumstances to become better you may have to wait for a very long time. Catch the bull of opportunity by the horns and make the most of it. Don’t just be an onlooker or a passive person, be a doer. Opportunities come knocking for all, some seize the moment while others wait twiddling their thumbs not knowing what to do. That is the difference between success and failure; between hope and despair. Those that fail are the ones who procrastinate and the successful ones have been quick on taking decisions and actions. Be a doer not a bystander or an onlooker. Act, don’t procrastinate.

The book defines what success should actually look like. From ordinary to extra ordinary, from experience to a greater experience, from living to a life of different perspective, the book defines how life is. If I start from Pain, Pain is a pesky part of being human; I’ve learned it feels like a stab wound to the heart, something I wish we could all do without, in our lives here. Pain is a sudden hurt that can’t be escaped. But then I have also learned that because of pain, I can feel the beauty, tenderness, and freedom of healing. Pain feels like a fast stab wound to the heart. But then healing feels like the wind against your face when you are spreading your wings and flying through the air! We may not have wings growing out of our backs, but healing is the closest thing that will give us that wind against our faces. I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you’re going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.

Five ordinary men facing circumstances, which might change them forever. This life is what you make it. No matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them – actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never find your soul mate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.

The author highlights Life impressively keeping “The Blue Moon as the Catalyst”. Dont act like you are walking around with a Tshirt that says “I give Up!” on the front and on the back saying “I never started trying! People can bring you down, situations happen, YOU can feel like Life is the shittiest thing to deal with. BLAH BLAH BLAH.. If you’re walking through Hell, keep going! Everyday there’s a new challenge. Face it! Deal with it! Move on! To every problem there is a solution or a way around it.. Stop being a sour mongrel and think life owes you something. No one will do anything for you these days. Start fighting. Get rid of ALL the shit people in your Life. Grow some balls of steel and work progressively through everything. Step by Step or whatever mad method you have to get you back in line again.
Who cares, if people don’t like you, BURN that mother of a bridge down? It was never meant to be. Build New ones! Many roads to cross and new paths on life to Explore. It starts with YOU. And if people want to judge you, tell them to F/O and look in the mirror. Time for a new game.. It’s called “Take over the World” WHOOOP WHOOOP!!

But what exactly is “The Blue moon” or what are the circumstances they face? What are the results? What is Life and Living?
