A BRIEF OVERVIEW-
Zehen thought he had ‘arrived’ only to realize he hadn’t. Not yet. He had many more miles to travel. Each arrival was the beginning of a new journey. A different country, a different time, a different woman; but his search for love remained the same. And so did his search for self. It is a story of our times that isn’t pivoted on a single dramatic moment, but on an unending flow that is always uncertain. No story is ever complete. Every breath is longing for another. We just continue.
THE TITLE
I found the title very apt and thrilling. The title very beautifully describes the theme of the book. We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place; we stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there. The title also gives us a vivid description of the word ‘Travel’ by referring to the fact that We wanderers, ever seeking the lonelier way, begin no day where we have ended another day; and no sunrise finds us where sunset left us. Even while the earth sleeps we travel. We are the seeds of the tenacious plant, and it is in our ripeness and our fullness of heart that we are given to the wind and are scattered.

REVIEW OF THE BOOK-
The plot has several associated sub themes with it.
Travel being the primary plot as it describes the fact that we travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
All the characters’ described in the plot like Zehen, Inayat, Kavya, Lyada, Svetlana, Sergei, Samar have been constructed keeping exploring in the background. We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature. After reading the book I have been finding treasures in places I did not want to search. I have been hearing wisdom from tongues I did not want to listen. I have been finding beauty where I did not want to look. And I have learned so much from journeys I did not want to take. Forgive me, O Gracious One; for I have been closing my ears and eyes for too long. I have learned that miracles are only called miracles because they are often witnessed by only those who can see through all of life’s illusions. I am ready to see what really exists on other side, what exists behind the blinds, and taste all the ugly fruit instead of all that looks right, plump and ripe.
The plot also leaves a beautiful message for us. For everything in this journey of life we are on, there is a right wing and a left wing: for the wing of love there is anger; for the wing of destiny there is fear; for the wing of pain there is healing; for the wing of hurt there is forgiveness; for the wing of pride there is humility; for the wing of giving there is taking; for the wing of tears there is joy; for the wing of rejection there is acceptance; for the wing of judgment there is grace; for the wing of honour there is shame; for the wing of letting go there is the wing of keeping. We can only fly with two wings and two wings can only stay in the air if there is a balance. Two beautiful wings is perfection. There is a generation of people who idealize perfection as the existence of only one of these wings every time. But I see that a bird with one wing is imperfect. An angel with one wing is imperfect. A butterfly with one wing is dead. So this generation of people strive to always cut off the other wing in the hopes of embodying their ideal of perfection, and in doing so, have created a crippled race.
It’s a rare thing these days, most people don’t have time to stop, to allow themselves to be moulded and shaped by the Creation. A feather falls from a bird and starts its journey alone; once it was attached, part of the whole; then it becomes an uncomplaining hobo, drifting with no agenda, changed by its separation-who knows where it ends up or what it becomes?
