Seychelles Practical Facts

Its official name is the Republic of the Seychelles and the archipelago has a total of 115 islands and islets spread throughout the Indian Ocean, of which only 33 are inhabited.

If one looks for the definition of ISOLATED, the Seychelles islands would respond perfectly to such a description, as they are located almost 1,000 kilometres north of Madagascar and more than 1,500 kilometres from the coasts of Kenya and Tanzania.

Its population is 98,000 inhabitants, a large part of them located on the island of Mahé, the main one.

Electricity in Seychelles

The electric current in Seychelles is 240v and therefore you will need an adapter to connect your electronic elements.

There will be some accommodations that will already have it incorporated into the sockets themselves, but in our case, in two of the three accommodations on our trip this was not the case, so it was very good for us to bring it from home.

Currency and cards during your trip to Seychelles

Regarding cards, all the usual cards are accepted in practically all establishments: bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hotels and even small neighbourhood stores. The use of credit/debit cards is widespread.

Language in the Seychelles

There are two official languages ​​in Seychelles, English and French, which are spoken normally and fluently by the vast majority of the population.

You may hear a different language than these two and wonder, which one is it? This is Creole or Kreol selva, a language also widespread in the archipelago and which has its origins in the slavery that existed on the islands.

Of course, knowing four words and using them on your trip to Seychelles is always useful and the locals usually find it quite amusing, I guess because we have to look like Indians trying to speak their language.

Internet and telephone for your trip to Seychelles

Seychelles is a very developed country and you will find Wi-Fi everywhere, including in hotels and restaurants.

If you travel with a SIM or eSIM card, you won’t have coverage problems either, since the internet network is spread over most of the islands and you can only lose it in remote and very specific places.

To travel with an eSIM card on your mobile phone that allows you to have internet and a telephone line permanently if you are travelling to Seychelles on your own, you can buy it at the airport upon arrival or do so in advance.

Best time to travel to Seychelles

The Seychelles enjoy a tropical and relaxed climate throughout the year, with temperatures ranging between 25 and 32 degrees and, yes, with a high degree of humidity.

The local climate is also conditioned by the Monsoons, the first one takes place from October to April and leaves some rain, especially in the months of December and January.

On the other hand, the other monsoon (the southeastern one) takes place between the months of May and September and almost completely eliminates the rains, leaving July and August as the driest months and with practically no rain, although with a lot of wind.

It should be emphasized that, despite the appearance of these two monsoons, there are no drastic climatic changes in the Seychelles islands and everything happens in a fairly relaxed manner in the archipelago, therefore, in reality, any time is good to travel to the islands. Seychelles.

Despite this, there is an ideal time and this is during the dry monsoon, between the months of May to September, especially during the months of July and August, when the rains almost disappear, the waters are extremely calm and the temperature is perfect.
