The second edition of of India Intimate Fashion Week happened recently in Mumbai. The evening was full of some creative, intimate wear collections showcased by Indian as well as International designers; some soulful music performances; an insightful panel discussion and lots of glitz and glamour.
The evening started with the International designer Mona Shroff’s show. She showcased some scintillating jewellery designs in the theme ‘Rio Carnival’ along with a magnificent clothing line by the fashion designer Rajiv Mehta. The designs were truly unique and mesmerizing. Along with this show, there was a live painting created by international artist Nityam Singharoy which was equally breathtaking.
The show was followed by an insightful panel discussion ‘The Intimate Debate’ where the panelists talked about the importance of intimate wear, the taboo India is fighting with, the future of intimate fashion in India.
After all the serious discussion, it was time for a soulful performance by the bollywood playback singer Rahul Pandey.
This was followed by a show by ‘La Intimo’ who showcased a range of intimate wear collection for men and women in various styles.
Now, it was time for some young, creative minds to showcase some of their best creations and designs. A lot of Gen-Next designers from INIFD, Bandra showcased some really beautiful designs. The designs were inspired from mystical land of Egypt. All the designs were very fresh, simple and had a right amount of innovative touch to it.
The next show at IIFW 2018 definitely was a major highlight. It was the launch of a plus-size lingerie label ‘Melons India’. India’s only super plus-size transgender model, Dr. Mona Varonica Campbell, sizzled the ramp as the showstopper for this show. The designs showcased by the brand looked very comfortable and creative at the same time.
Then, there was a show by designer Rashmi Solanki who presented her exclusive collection ‘RUDRA’. This collection is designed using the age old Indian techniques of fabric making and handicrafts and promotes fashion sustainability. My favorite part and the highlight of this show was the showstopper, Commando 2 fame bollywood actor Thakur Anoop Singh.
Before the final show, there was a magical performance of ‘Rastafari’ singer DEB.
It was soon time for the grand finale. The final show was by an international fashion designer Jef Albea who presented bridal lingerie collection for the first time in India. The collection comprised of some splendid and breathtaking designs that are sure to make any bride look and feel special on the special day.
It was indeed a beautiful evenign at IIFW 2018 and the collections showcased by various designers and brands were absolutely amazing. Also, IIFW has started a new initiative #boothetaboo which, I feel, is great and very much required to raise awareness and education among the Indian audience about intimate wear and its importance.
