GE Mining Introduces ‘Digital Mine’ to Improve Equipment Efficiency, Productivity, Safety

GE Mining, the global mining solution provider introduced advanced data technology and analytics the DIGITAL MINE at MINExpo. It is  a suite of technologies that can improve performance, reliability, safety and operations in the mining sector by offering  Intelligent, real-time monitoring that allows mine operators to  make data-driven decisions that improve equipment reliability and optimize mine operations, at the same time, could save USD 5 billion annually.

The Digital Mine is powered by GE’s Predix, a cloud-based operating platform built exclusively for mining industry; it delivers interconnected technology needed to achieve breakthrough levels of efficiency and maximum performance. It combines machine sensors, connectivity, data capture, visualization and analytics to support management of an asset’s lifecycle.

Its condition-monitoring capability collect information such as vibration data, temperature and pressure to inform mine operators of machine health, and also detects impending failures before they occur. Data collected from disparate systems enables the linking of insights across machines and processes, which can lead to better productivity and reduced possibility of accidents, while increasing productivity.

“Mining, as an industry, faces strong headwinds and must drive productivity and improve operational savings. Digital Mine, through advanced sensor technology and analytics, seizes the industry’s untapped data to help make a difference,” said Mr. Scott Phillips, Vice President and CEO of GE Mining.

He further added, “As we’re doing successfully for the rail industry, we’re using our Industrial Internet mindset to actively monitor and diagnose equipment and operations to improve assets, maximize efforts, boost fuel efficiency and lower costs.”

The digital solutions have the potential to help customers reduce equipment failures, deliver up to five percent improvement in mineral recovery, and increase optimization, claim the company.

GE Mining provides innovative solutions for the most vital requirements of power, water and productivity, to help mining industry achieve success.

In addition to software, GE Mining has provided its most powerful 400-ton wheel motor in recently launched Komatsu’s 980E-4 mining haul truck, which is the industry, most powerful electric wheel motor and created a latest class in haul truck performance at mining sites.
