Steps how to get traffic to a new blog or website

Is your blog new? Are you struggling to get traffic? Are you Writing content that is not getting enough traffic? If any of these questions are similar, well, this article is for you.

The first thing to get good traffic is to write unique, new and original content.

When you read unique and original, you might think you can Write in your own words but that is now how you define original. Original is something that is not written, something that is not said or if said, you rewrite in epic way so people like to link you.

You write awesome content, people link to you and you get popularity and more visitors.

But wait, is writing epic content is good enough? Hello NO!

You must promote the content as well as you are new and need eyeballs on your content. Ask me the ratio of spending time on writing and spending time on promotion, I would say its equal.

If you spend 2 hours writing, spend 2 hours promoting the blog.

Here are the few steps you can use and get your blog to next level.

1. Keywords

First and foremost thing to make sure, even before writing a new post is keyword research. Now, I honestly don’t do research myself before writing each content but mostly, I do. Keyword research is easy and Google tool is one of the best and highly recommended.

There are others as well like SEMRush but since you are starting out and not making money, I would recommend nothing but free Google tool only.

Do the proper keyword research, use Yoast SEO for WordPress to make sure you are doing right usage of keywords in your articles.

2. Content

Content is the next step. Write the best content, long content is preferred.

Write content with numerals like

3 effective and free SEO Tips

Be it 3 or 300, write posts with numbers, such posts do well with readers. Write something that is helpful and people want to read it all over again.

Let the readers know that you have knowledge and you know what you are writing. Create the content that has at least 1000 words and more. I don’t like writing article with more than 2000 words because it scares me and gets boring. Who has that much time anyway, I don’t.

I can’t even read 1000 words properly unless it is a guide in which we mainly focus on pictures and not just texts.

Write, Write, Write!

3. Commenting

So you have created at least 20 posts and are ready to do some serious work? If yes, start with blog commenting.

Read the detailed post

Search for the relevant blogs. Now, here is the easy way –

Here is a website – DropMyLink, here, you just type the keyword that is relevant to your post and find list of blogs that you might wanna use for blog commenting.

Blog commenting is a tool that you must use to make relationship with other bloggers and not just backlinks. Start interacting and replying. Enjoy it and you will be benefited.

Just make sure you are not overdoing it.

To make things even easier, I have compiled a list which you can use to find blogs to comment, this is the list that I use anyway.

4. Interlinking

Interlinking is must!

This is important rule. Google considers many factors for ranking a page and it tries to know what page is important of a website. You surely have most inbound links coming on to homepage but other pages need attention as well which you can do by interlinking. Do it as much as you can.

5. Guest Posting

This is something said enough times but are you doing it? Write good articles for your own site but send best out to more reputed sites. Have visibility online, write more often to other blogs that are relevant to your niche. This is very crucial and important for your success. Write one post on your own site and two on other websites.

Want to know how to find blogs to guest post? Where to begin with?

The best way is to begin with is by asking the owner of the blogs you are commenting if they allow you to guest post on their blog.

You might get a chance to write for them, if not, it is okay, keep moving forward. I am sure you will get positive answers as well.

How to approach people? Just tell them that you are follower of their blog and want to contribute as a guest blogger and I am sure they will say yes to you.

6. Interviews and Roundups

Interviews are one of the best ways to connect with fellow bloggers, specially those who are senior and are doing better than you, better in terms of getting traffic, in terms of writing, in terms of making money.

I have published couple of interviews on my own blog:

Interview with Robin Khokhar from TrickyEnough.com

Interview with Zac Johnson from BloggingTips.Com

These got good views, from the people who were interviewed as well.

Ask them politely to share the interview on their own website or blog and they will gladly do.

Another way to get people share your content is by sharing their content, they WILL notice.

Another great way is roundups. Roundup is a post where you choose several people who write in the same niche and you ask their opinion in a paragraph and you sum up all of them in one post.

Roundup takes time but are much better and effective. Several people get to share your post if you are lucky and you get good traction.

7. Go Social

In the end, go social. Social isn’t only about Facebook or Insta. It is about promoting your blog on anywhere you are active, be it Quora, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit or anything else including YouTube.

Yep, you heard me right, social includes YouTube, SlideShare, Pinterest and Instagrams etc where you post variety of content and not just texts.

One more thing – you cannot leverage all of the social tools all at once. To begin with, promote content where you are active, where your presence is built already.

And gradually get onto other platforms.

Social Media is a very powerful tool to promote your website or work but it has to be done smartly to make sure you get the needed visibility.

8. Email List Building

Start it right when you start blogging. You will hardly get any subscriber in the beginning but eventually, you will see people adding up. Email List is the best method, much better and independent than Google itself. Google can ban you one day or push you down but email subscription will work all seasons.

There are several tools but since you are just starting out, SumoMe is the best and being used by many people including myself. You can ask people to give their email so that you can share the new post with them.

Start working on email list building as soon as possible and once you have good list, you can switch to paid service like Aweber or GetResponse etc.

Conclusion

When you are starting out, building the great blog is a most important thing and to do that, you must write exceptional post. Writing on some “How tos” will surely help you.

Write some guide, something people are looking for, something you searched for and got understanding of it and you are ready to write simpler version of the same thing.

Write the best and post it on other more popular posts as guest blogger, it will help heaps!

All the best for blogging
