Near-perfect 399 JAMB score: Conflicting result surfaces showing new aggregate score of 199

It was earlier reported on Friday that one Ibrahim Shamwilu from Kogi state made a near-perfect score of 399 out of a possible 400 at the recently held university and tertiary institutions matriculation examinations (UTME) organised by the Joint Admission Management Board (JAMB).

Shamwilu immediately became an internet sensation, drawing positive remarks from far and near. As usual with such cases of amazing academic records however, there was also skepticism.

The skepticism inspired further checks on the Jamb Website using the details of the candidate as publicised and the outcome reveals that the result presently on the JAMB website (as of 6:00pm on Friday) indicates that Shamwilu scored a total of 199 as opposed to 399 contained in the result earlier publicised.

The breakdown also shows that Shamwifu scored 58 in Use of English; 45 in Physics; 44 in Biology; and 52 in Chemistry, as compared to the perfect score of 100 in Physics, Chemistry and Biology respectively, recorded in the initial result that was circulated Friday morning.

The cause of the conflicting records is yet to be ascertained and while a formal statement from JAMB is being awaited, some observers have argued that since the examination body introduced the computer-based-test option, there have always been discrepancies in results. The discrepancies, according to some observers who claim to have wards who experienced such, are usually corrected by JAMB when noticed or following complaints by candidates.
