Review: Jekyll & Hyde (2015 TV)

Storyline (Quoted IMDb)

It’s 1930s London and Robert Jekyll is a naive, sensitive young man finding his place in the world and moving away from the protection of his loving foster parents. As he begins to feel himself coming under the power of a darkness he cannot control, he realizes that all this time his parents were protecting him from his true self. Jekyll has inherited the curse of his grandfather, and when angered or in danger he undertakes a graphic and twisted transformation to become Hyde, a shadowy, brooding figure of incredible strength and agility; confident and fearless. As he tries to discover his past and search for a cure, Robert Jekyll is drawn deep into Hyde’s world of monstrous creatures and freaks of nature.

What I thought of Season One:

I remember in the original notation of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, it went on for nearly a page on the displeasing and odd looks of poor old Mr Edward Hyde.

Thank goodness this devil was far more handsome.

After the first episode I wasn’t sure if this was going to be worth watching, but when the episode finished I was dead set against missing any more. Our new Jekyll and Hyde is a much more in depth story of the Hyde curse explained throughout the generations. The characters are also easy to fall for. The script is down right perfect and even hilarious. I’ve never been into a show quite like this one and I’m gearing up for the next season. Without giving away too much, this unstoppable beast has tore its way throw brick, bone and claw. I have no idea where the bad reviews have come out of, but this show in particular makes me that I had a Hyde too.

Unlike the story we know, Hyde is the word for the beast within, it just wasn’t made in a lab and drunk by a crazy doctor. This new Jekyll, also a Doctor, wants nothing to do with the other side of him…until he realizes the other side might be only side people want.

He’s handsome on both sides of his personalty. I’m not sure if the lack of change is because they wanted to keep him recognizable, or just budget cuts. I love it either way. Our dear Doctor is caring, compassionate, and just wants to save everyone. The devilish Mr Hyde however, seems to just want to roll with the fun. The more I watch I feel as though the Doctor is having influence over Hyde, making sure his decisions don’t harm those he cares for. The actor playing these two parts is one of the most brilliant actors I’ve seen. Switching from the baby face to the most evil handsome devil that looks like he’s about to tear open a rift to the underworld. The behavior and body language as well as the eccentric voice changes make the character more than any two individual actors I’ve ever seen playing these roles.

The girls are great. From what it appears he has a girl for each of his personalities. A responsible caring chemist, and a sassy thieving bar owner (at least, as they appear for now).

The difference in appearance by the same actor… Wow.
