Review: The Arrow (TV)

Story-line on IMDb:

“Spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing and presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. He returns five years later a changed man, determined to clean up the city as a hooded vigilante armed with a bow.”

My thoughts:

The only word that seemed to be missing was philanthropist. But I may have heard that somewhere else before.

When Arrow first showed on TV I thought it was another episode of Lost, so I turned it off and didn’t hear about it again for a very long time. I began watching The Arrow when there were 3 seasons ready to go, personally I like to think that was genius. This is the series off cliffhangers. From story-line to literally hanging people and calling off cliffs.

The part I do like, however, is that no matter what happens our hero just keeps coming back with harder punches. He’s been stabbed, shot, bruised, burned and tortured and yet he still finds time to make a dry joke about it.

At first in the series he seemed extremely cold and determined to show the world he hasn’t changed, in order to excuse himself from situations and go shoot someone with an arrow. As the series goes on we see pieces of the life he had before coming back from the Island. Ironically 5 years on the island is taking about 5 years to remember. I don’t mind it of course, who wants to end the story that quickly?

The part of Arrow that makes the show worth watching is not how his muscles flex or the fight scenes, or even the sex scenes (well, for some), but it’s the characters that surround the Arrow and make him evolve throughout the seasons. His heart went cold on the island, but when he came back he found friendship, loyalty and love.

The crossover episodes with the Flash make this show so much more worth wild. They choose to leave the mystery of which one of them winning in battle against each other in secret, though I have the feeling Oliver may have won? I’m not picking favorites, I just think experience makes the hero.

If you haven’t seen the recent season this is where you may want to stop reading, no major spoilers involved.

In my belief, even though Oliver is still a bit of a playboy, the recent season has turned him into a kind, gentle and lovable character whose feelings for Felicity are unmatched.

Speaking of Felicity, how about a quote?

Felicity Smoak: It feels really good having you inside me… And by you I mean your voice. And by me I mean my ear. I’m going to stop talking. Right now.

Oliver Queen: That would be my preference.

(From IMDb)

She is ridiculously cheerful, lighthearted and is straight to the point with her feelings and decisions. Her actress plays the part so well and her expressions make me feel every emotion her character is going through. Either way, I tip my hat the Felicity, more so than any other character, as the one with no experience in fighting or crime, her pursuit for justice is impeccable, and remarkable.

Do I recommend this show?

Absolutely. More than most for drama, action and romance. I just wish they would stop leaving cliffhangers!
