Studies show that music reduces anxiety. It even offers relief from the symptoms of depression. Certain tunes are capable of reducing anxiety up to 65%, experts say. To be simple, music is a powerful mood booster.

  1. It improves the quality of your workout session

A recent study done in the field revealed that listening to music when exercising improves performance. Scientists also found out that those who listened to motivational music performed better than those who preferred a slow tune. Whatever is the scenario, key to success lies in your ability to choose the kind of music that may inspire you.

  1. Music helps you sleep better

Music improves the quality of your sleep, say experts. Experiments done among students showed that classic music is an effective medicine for insomnia. This makes it a highly recommended alternative for prescription drugs designed for the same.

  1. It strengthens your brain

There are several studies to prove that music enhances a person’s verbal, written and visual skills.

Scientists took a group of children in the age-range of 4-6. They subjected them to one month of music education. They had to learn pitch, rhythm, voice and the basic concepts of music. Researchers found out that it improved their ability to learn words and their meanings. They were also able to explain them well later. Another such study conducted among children of 8-11 years too came up with the same result. They were required to attend extracurricular music studies. They showed enhanced verbal IQ. Their visual skill too was far superior to that of those who didn’t receive such training. Even one-year olds who enjoyed interactive music sessions displayed the same results. Infants who had parents who received musical education showed increased ability to communicate well.

  1. It helps you recover from traumatic experiences

You are sure to have played that sad song repeatedly after a breakup. There is nothing to feel ashamed of it. In fact, it helps you recover from the pain. When you listen to a melancholic song, you experience the emotion the artist tries to convey. This doesn’t have any complications in your real life. As a result, your mind gets cleaned up from the trash.

  1. It improves memory

If you have a loved one who suffers from dementia, you may have noticed one thing. The person remembers verses of the song he had learned years ago. Your family doctor may even use this to help him get back memories of the past. Studies show that certain types of music helps a person remember things at a certain period of time. If you want someone to recollect something of the past, make him listen to the song he praised much that month or year.

The effect of music on memory had been the matter of great debate until recently. At present, researchers have evidences to back their claims in this regard. They have also found out that people have a particular bond with the music they listened to as teenagers.
