We started last week video with a popular adage which we use in a matter of fact manner and its deeper meaning.  It was a great surprise to know the adage that meant ‘Do not stay in a place where there is NO TEMPLE’ was a governance whip than a religious pedagogy.  Our ancestors had a perfect well defined system in place that boasts of organized city much earlier than our capital city Chandigarh with clearly demarcated areas of living more by the functions and approach than any caste or status defined considerations.

When we went to Temples, we specifically chose temples that are old because it gives us a great opportunity to walk in a pristine atmosphere and spend some time all by ourselves. Good that we are not allowed to carry mobiles inside. But every time we go to the temple, the expanse of the temple, the huge area given to it by the kings would always pop up as a question in my mind. Why should a king spend so much to build a temple of so mammoth when the deity is confined within smaller areas?  Most of the space is open and are used for relaxing, walking and sitting. Even the huge mandapams  with 1000 pillars, 108 pillars  with absolutely nothing to see running along as a corridor and specifically small rooms without any deity (many are kept locked)  intrigued me.  Yes, Someone did tell me that temples were used as a fort during wars but yet I did not find it convincing as a reason for it.

The answer is these two videos that Director Naga has done on the background of explaining an adage.  We are amazed at the rain harvesting techniques, planning,  disaster relief Management so beautifully put in place by our ancestors.
