We heard few of our friends talk about Tawa 9 in Mandaveli  and decided to check it out. Located near the State bank of India branch of Venkata Krishnan Road (Near Mandaveli Bus Stand), Tawa 9 is a decent vegetarian restaurant.  We met the owner Maitri and got to know her recommended items to try it out. We were a mixed group of South Indian and North Indian / Continental food lovers and this place had items to cater to our various needs. We were there at lunch time and we saw Tamilnadu and North Indian meals available.

For the starters, we went in Corn canapés and Cheese balls.  Corn canapé was awesome and cheese balls had cheese oozing out with occasional green chilli to give that pep – a must try for cheese lovers.

We tried out Ennai Kathrikkai (Brinjal in Oil) Rice served with pickle and appalam. It was stunningly tasty and you have the option to choose the strength of the spice – we took the highly spicy one and it was awesome and tasted absolutely home made.  A must try for anyone who loves Brinjal.

The next in the list was Tawa Pulao with Raitha. It was nice, aromatic but we could not make out why it is called Tawa Pulao – tasted very much as an intermediate between Brinji and Biriyani. The biggest advantage of this restaurant is their pricing and we went for 2 pieces of Phulka with spicy kadai paneer.

One of the must try beverages we had   was Saunf sharbat.  Maitri explained that it was made out of juice extracted from Saunf and Cardamom and made into Sharbat.  It was so different and was a welcome drink for the hot n sweaty summer.  We would certainly prefer it to be a bit chill though. The one we tried was Fresh lime soda and it was good too.

As it was our daughter’s birthday, the owner was so sweet to extend Oreo chocolates made of white and dark Chocolate. It was tempting and interesting too and we all loved it.

It is a good place for vegetarians and their evening snacks requires another visit – saw awesome snacks including murukku sandwich,  Bhel puri and chaats.
