EWIT Discusses Hot Theme of Today – Gender Equal – the Work Place of the Future

Empowering Women in IT and ITES (EWIT Chennai) celebrated their 10th Anniversary with an event in The RainTree Hotel,  Teynampet, Chennai , the theme being Gender Equal – the Work Place of the Future.  The attendees included women from various age groups and organizations gathering under one roof to participate in one of the trending topics of today.  Such presence of women from every strata of society coming together stands as a testimony to the evolving changes and expected transition of the future work place.

Though the agenda demanded our presence from 3 PM onward, we made it in time to join the panel discussion with Bhanurekha Condur, Associate Vice President at Sutherland Global Services, Visalakshi Subramaniam Retail Business Services (India) at ThoughtWorks, Sriram Rajagopal Senior Vice President – Human Resources at Cognizant Technology Solutions, and Srinath Sridevan HSB Partners  and was ably conducted by Usha Srinivasan.  The discussion traveled the lengths and breadths of policy making, work and family balance, career challenges, flexible work followed by a sensible question and answer session very well answered by the panelists.

It was heartwarming to see a number of men in the event actively participating in the interactive sessions. This event also gave away awards of Excellence to women achievers and it was encouraging to see so many young technocrats receiving the honor.

We had Dr. Janani on the dais next, a brain reader specialized in Dermatoglyphics, a Study that integrates brain science, medicine, genetics, psychology and behavioral science.  This beats the Psychometric analysis by leaps and bounds and is touted to be the next tool in studying behaviors and psychological health.  The interesting part of this study is the capability to identify areas of skill that can be worked upon to show performance; in short this can be a life changing study. Dr. Janani has performed this study on over 100,000 individuals ranging from a 1 year old baby to a 108 year old person.  The concept of ‘having space’, ‘doing space’ and ‘being space’ set us on a thinking process.

The final talk by Padmapriya Ramanujan instilled the way one should approach life and the need to be practical in approaching things. Her life is not a story of a rich industrial tycoon’s daughter but of a normal engineering graduate with a love for her job scaling great heights by perseverance and hard work. Her way of presenting the Google images on the future of work place and gender equal clearly drove the message loud and clear that mutual inclusivity works better than challenging each other.

We were treated to a delicious dinner and we carried home an understanding that Gender equality has a long way to go and Learning is a part of life and it is important to stay up with it and effectively use the support available to scale greater heights.

Our special thanks to Umasree Raghunath for extending an invitation to us and we are happy to have been a part of this wonderful event.
