Royal Enfield Himalayan 650cc close to reveal, says UK press report

Cartoq.com –

When Royal Enfield launched the 650 twins back in 2018, they gave a ray of hope to the enthusiasts that the manufacturer will also plonk in the same engine in a Himalayan and it will make for an ultimate adventure tourer. However, even after a lot of rumours that has not become a reality. Now, there are new reports that come from the UK saying that the Himalayan 650 might be finally happening. The reports say that the motorcycle is being developed at Royal Enfield’s UK technology centre.

Because the development of the new motorcycle is not happening in India we have not seen any test mules till now. Royal Enfield is quite famous and has a cult following due to which most of the information about their upcoming motorcycles are leaked heavily. We experienced this happening with the Meteor 350 about which all the details were leaked ahead of launch. Now, the same thing has happened with the new generation Classic 350. There are spy shots of the new Classic that reveal it from all angles and also depict all features it will offer. This is not good for the manufacturer as it kills the excitement and the hype around the motorcycle.

If the motorcycle was being tested in India, the keen-eyed motorcycle fans would have spotted and clicked pictures of it. No manufacturer wants this especially with a motorcycle like a 650cc Himalayan that has already created so much hype without Royal Enfield ever saying anything about it.

Himalayan 411cc

Royal Enfield’s UK technology centre is located at Bruntingthorpe, England. Because the test site is closed for the general public, the motorcycle can be developed at their site without even anybody knowing about it. This is one of the reasons why the 650 cc Himalayan has not been spotted till now. It is not even confirmed if the motorcycle will be called “Himalayan”. Royal Enfield has already filed trademarks for names like Sherpa, Hunter, Flying Flea, Shotgun and Roadster. Who knows there might be more motorcycles that are currently being developed. We would just have to wait for the official announcement from Royal Enfield.

More powerful than current Himalayan

The Himalayan is powered by a 411 cc engine that produces 24.3 bhp and a torque of 32 Nm. However, because of its heavyweight which is 199 kgs, the motorcycle feels like it lacks punch. This is the one thing that the consumers have complained about. The 650 cc engine is a parallel twin and produces 47 bhp and a torque of 52 Nm. An adventure touring motorcycle with this kind of power can easily solve the criticism that the Himalayan is facing.

Scrambler also in works

Royal Enfield has also trademarked the name “Scram” which will be a scrambler version of the Himalayan. So, the design will be changed to look like a scrambler and it will come with the same 411 cc engine of the Himalayan. We hope that Royal Enfield is able to shed some weight for the Scram so that the motorcycle feels peppier.

Upcoming 650 cc motorcycles

The manufacturer is working on a power cruiser and a Classic that will be using the 650 cc parallel-twin from the Interceptor and the Continental GT. Test mules of both the motorcycles have been spotted on our Indian roads. The Classic 650 is expected to be positioned below the Interceptor while the power cruiser is expected to be the new flagship.
