Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC India launch on May 23

AutocarIndia.com –

Just days after the British manufacturer added the new Speed Twin to its line-up in India, Triumph has announced that the Scrambler 1200 will be launched in the country on May 23. Internationally, the Scrambler 1200 is available in two variants – a base XC, and an even more off-road-focused XE, of which, only the XC will be launched in India on the 23rd.

The Scrambler 1200 uses a new double-cradle chassis and is the first motorcycle in its class to feature a standard 21-inch front wheel. The rear is a 17-inch unit and you’ll be pleased to know that these wire-spoke rims support tubeless tyres. The motorcycle comes with dual-purpose Metzeler Tourance tyres but more off-road focused Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres are approved for use as well. Moving on, the bike also offers great suspension, with a 45mm fully adjustable Showa USD fork and a set of fully adjustable Ohlins dual shocks at the back; the XC offers a very impressive 200mm of suspension travel at either end. Braking hardware consists of dual front discs and a Brembo M50 four-piston calliper, and a dual-piston Brembo with a single disc at the rear.

The engine on the Scrambler 1200 is borrowed from the Thruxton, but in a different state of tune. With 90hp at 7,400rpm and 110Nm at 3,950rpm, the Scrambler makes a little less power and torque than the Thruxton and Speed Twin (97hp and 112Nm). A slip and assist clutch, switchable traction control and ABS are standard and there’s also a range of riding modes on offer (Rain, Road, Off Road, Sport and Rider). The bike gets full-LED lighting as well.

Adding to the list of high-end hardware is a new TFT display that offers some unique features. Triumph claims that this second-generation TFT display is the first on a motorcycle to have an integrated GoPro control system. The display also shows turn-by-turn navigation if equipped with the optional Bluetooth connectivity module that also enables phone and music operation. Other electronics come in the form of a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a USB port and heated grips (optional accessory).

When launched, the Scrambler 1200 XC will rub shoulders with Ducati’s iteration of a scrambler, the Scrambler 1100 (Rs 11.42 lakh) that is similar in performance and displacement, although a lot more road-biased. Given its off-road prowess, it will also face competition from within the family, going up against the likes of the Triumph Tiger 800 XCA (Rs 15.16 lakh)

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.
