The Matte lip trend has been sweeping the scene all year and it’s not slowing down the least bit! I’m not going to lie, I didn’t see what the hype was about when these first broke the internet. I have smaller lips so I always gravitated towards lip gloss to make my lips appear fuller. I loved how the matte lip look looked on others but didn’t think it would work well for me. I started to overline my cupid’s bow to get the added volume I was looking for. This completely changed the game for me! Now, I could confidently wear a matte Liquid lipstick.

I didn’t like how dry some of the Liquid Lipsticks made my lips feel. I keep my lips extra moisturized at all times, not just for lipstick wear. When I would apply certain brands of matte liquid lipstick, it would start crumbling off in flakes. I tried everything from exfoliating my lips even more to adding extra moisture. Nothing worked to combat the dryness my lips felt from some liquid lipsticks. Little ole me went on a mission to find the perfect liquid lipsticks that were highly pigmented, long lasting, and comfortable. My search led me to find what I consider the best matte liquid lipsticks in the market. My top five matte liquid lipstick brands are Coloured Raine, Nicka K, Milani, Lena Lashes, and Colour Pop. There are still so many on my bucket list that I want to try but these brands have stood out to me so far. Let’s break this down even further.

1. Coloured Raine Matte Lip Paint. This formula is my absolute favorite liquid lipstick formula. It is forgiving if you forget to moisturize. It’s not extremely drying. If you’re looking for liquid lipsticks that pack a punch you’ve got your fix here, these are extremely pigmented.

The applicator is a small doe-foot wand which gives you complete control over application. It’s extremely precise so you can leave that lip brush behind!

I love how it applies evenly on the lips. Unlike many other matte liquid lipsticks, you can get away with one application of this product without having to layer it on several times. It doesn’t start crumbling and flaking off on you. It also doesn’t ball up on your lips and leave that nasty balled up residue.

Wondering how it holds up all day? This product won’t budge even with eating and drinking. If you go and eat a big greasy enchilada or something, it might start to fade. With non-greasy foods, you’ll be fine.

They have an amazing color selection, from the nudest of the nudes to the dark plums and reds. My all-time favorite shade is Cherry Blossom. If you love Ruby Woo from MAC or were able to pick up the limited edition Riri Woo lipstick from the Rihanna collection, this is the next best thing to it. It’s a richly pigmented blue-based red and it’s guaranteed to make you the belle of the ball. It’s almost always sold-out so when you see it, you better grab it fast!

2. Nicka K True Matte Lip Gloss. If you’re on a very tight budget, try these out. I found these at my local beauty supply store for $1.99. Let me tell you, this was the best $1.99 I’ve ever spent at the beauty supply store. This caught me by total surprise.

Don’t let the price fool you, this product is exceptional. There are 18 colors in the line, some of these colors are non-traditional green and blues. For the most part, they have the basics covered. From nudes to deep red all the way to a blackened berry color.

These matte lipsticks glide on smoothly like a gloss. Once they dry down, they’re a comfortable lipstick formula. They are transfer-proof and have the best candy-like smell, sort of like Starburst.

The applicator wand is a small doe-foot which makes applying the product extremely quick and easy. The one drawback to this product is that you have to layer it up a few times. You can’t get the color payoff you’re wanting in just one application; you have to build up the color.

I really love that these lip glosses don’t start to get cakey when applying multiple layers. I’ve put this to the test many times. Make sure to layer up the product while it’s still wet, that goes for any liquid lipstick.

This product also doesn’t have amazing lasting power through eating and drinking. I usually have to apply this product again after I eat and drink because the color starts to wear off a bit in the middle. You can’t beat the quality you get for the price.

My hands down favorite color in this line is called Millbrook. It’s a greyish-purple color that would be a bold lip on fair to tan skin tones and more of a unique pretty nude on deep skin tones. Give these a try and let me know what you think.

3. Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème. These took me by complete surprise. I love the Milani brand, they always have quality products at amazing prices. I popped into Walgreens one day and saw a full display of beautiful lip cremes.

The lip cremes are my favorite at the drugstore. There are 18 richly pigmented colors in the collection. These lip cremes have the best smell by far! They smell like vanilla cupcakes fresh out of the oven. Mmmm mm…

The Amore Matte Cremes apply like a dream. No flakiness, crumbling, balling up or extra weirdness when you try to layer it up. Although you can layer it up, you don’t have to. This product is the most pigmented matte liquid lipstick at the drugstore and compares to the Coloured Raine liquid lipsticks in terms of application, wearability, and pigmentation.

It’s not sticky and transfer-proof. I wore this to a wedding and reception that lasted a total of 9 or 10 hours and this product truly proved itself. When I say it didn’t move, I mean it literally didn’t move or lift the entire day.

I whole-heartedly recommend these, especially if you’re on a budget! My favorite color in this formula is Obsession. Obsession is a true blue-based plum color. This is definitely a color you could wear on its own with minimal eyeshadow and have it be the focal point of your look. You could also wear this with a full-face of makeup and look fab!

The applicator is a double-sided, flexible plush wand. It works perfectly with the lip crème, giving me total control with application. I love when I find a great product that doesn’t require me to carry around a lip brush because the applicator is terrible. The great thing about this product is you really don’t need a touch-up at all unless you eat a taco dripping in oil. I give this product a double thumbs up.

4. Lena Lashes More Matte Than Matte. If you haven’t heard about these liquid lipsticks, you’re missing out! They come in a wide selection of colors, perfect for fair skin tones to deep skin tones. There is a perfect color for everyone. I love that Lena Lashes incorporates something for everyone with all of their products.

These liquid lipsticks are highly pigmented and last all day long. I love how smooth the formula is, I enjoy putting this on. There is absolutely no cakiness with this product. I’m always reaching for these liquid lipsticks on a night out because I know they’ll stay put.

It’s a very comfortable formula. My lips don’t get that tight feeling that it does with some other liquid lipstick products. You can layer this product multiple times while it’s wet without any wearability issues. The product is very pigmented but I typically put two coats of this product on to get the full-coverage effect I’m wanting.

My favorite color right now is Daniel. It’s a dusty pink color that looks more like a bolder pink lip on fair skin tones and a nude pink on deeper skin tones. I love pairing this with a burgundy colored lip pencil like MAC’s Nightmoth for added flair.

5. Colour Pop Ultra Matte Lip. This was the most talked about makeup brand in 2015 and continues to be in 2016. Colour Pop is blowing up the scene with high-quality products at an affordable price. Their Ultra Matte Lips retail for $6 and are well worth the money.

These liquid lipsticks are pigmented but not the most pigmented on the market in my opinion. I generally find myself applying two to three coats although I find that after the first coat the product starts to get cakey. To combat this, I’ve stuck to applying just one extra layer on top of the first layer while it’s still wet.

The color selection is the widest on the market. With 47 colors and counting, this company knows a thing or two about color. Their shades are a mixture of traditional nudes and pinks to non-traditional blues and greens.

The product has some lasting power. I do find that with eating and drinking the product starts to wear off in the center of the lips. I’ll typically re-apply and go on about my day. These Ultra Matte Lips are easy to apply because of the longer doe foot applicator wand. No need for a lip brush with these. We have ColourPop to thank for that.

Tips For A Comfy Wear

• Make sure your lips are well moisturized but dry off excess oil right before application. These products adhere to dry lips better and will last longer that way.

• If you want to layer your liquid lipsticks, do this while the product is still wet. Don’t wait for it to dry down. If you do this, you may have cakey lipstick.

• Also, make sure to let your lips fully dry after application. Try not to rub your lips together or talk while the product is still drying. This can cause your lipstick to ball up and cake off.
