A Day in the Life of an Eyelash Extension Technician, with Raquel Wyatt

A Day in the Life of An Misencil Eyelash Extension Technician, Raquel Wyatt from The Beauty On Duty!

The Beauty on Duty is the exclusive distributor of MISENCIL® eyelash extensions and care products in Australia. MISENCIL® lashes are silky smooth, cruelty-free and applied using the world’s safest and most durable adhesive, to enhance your natural beauty and give you complete peace of mind. Unlike other eyelash extensions that require you to wait 24-48 hours before getting them wet, our award-winning MISENCIL® eyelash extensions allow you to enjoy a shower, wash your face or go swimming in just two hours. MISENCIL® eyelash extensions and care products are hypoallergenic, with no fumes or odours. Developed from natural fibres, each lash features a micro-texture coating to ensure it adheres to your natural lash and doesn’t shift position. The lashes do not absorb humidity and are flexible, lightweight, heat-resistant and water-repellent.

Raquel is the Australian Misencil lash queen and she shares a typical day with Why Hello Beauty below!

6am – Out of bed and getting breakfast and clothing sorted for my little one. I check my emails and maybe make a call to the Montreal office for updates. After I drop the little one off at Montessori around 8:30, today I find a cute cafe for breakfast and coffee.

9:30am – I usually arrive at the Intercontinental CBD around this time and catch up with the crew at Sebastian Salons, where my lash studio is located. After a few laughs with the girls, I set up for my first client.   I keep client notes so that I always know which of our adhesives, Lashes, lengths, thicknesses and styles the client prefers.

10am – My first client today is new. She has read my website well and has arrived make-up free. Yay! She has lots of queries as this is only her second time getting lashes after having had a bad experience on holidays in Bali (I seem to get a lot of these types of clients). With her, as with all new clients, I explain what the lash process is like, ask a few medical questions and we both come to an agreement on which lash and which style she will receive. I love informing my clients of what’s to come because the more informed they are about the process and also how to care for the lashes afterward, the better clients they become. She’s booked for a Superstar lash application, which took about 90 minutes.

11:30am – My next booking is not until 2pm, so this gave me time to take a sneaky little walk down to the Harbour and enjoy the Sydney sunshine! I did all the social media mid-day check-ins and headed back to prepare for my next booking.

2pm – My client arrived a few minutes early which was great as she still had on make-up. Once she washed off all of her make-up with Misencil’s Face & Eye Makeup Remover, we got started. This client is also new however, she has had lashes many times. She wanted to try something more subtle that didn’t scream ‘lash extensions’ with an obvious fake lash look. We discussed the right look and products for her and got started. Happily, she opened her eyes after almost two hours and said “This is EXACTLY what I wanted!” Yay! It is the absolute best feeling when clients are happy with their results.

4:15pm – I’m finished with clients for today as I finish at 4pm on weekdays to allow time to be with my toddler. I make notes on both clients so I know what they want the next time. Before I head out, I find out that a client in the chair for a blow dry has a few questions about my lash extensions, so I stay another 15 minutes answering them. She wants to book in the next two weeks. Awesome!

5pm – I arrive at Montessori to pick up my little angel. We usually stop at a cafe for a cup of milk and a small muffin and he tells me all about his day. After our daily catch up, it’s time to get him home and bathed and start our evening routine. Before bed, I check to see if any online product orders need to be shipped, answer training queries (I also manage the Misencil Eyelash Extension Training Academy in Australia) and also make sure all new client bookings have been sent their pre-appointment tips.

10pm – Lights out!
