whether it's the fault in our stars by John Green or a Percy Jackson book, books are a great gift and they usually last for a very long time.
2. CDs
personally, I know that if one of my friends got me One Direction's new CD I would love them forever
3. BRACELETS
best friend forever bracelets, band bracelets, or marc jacob braclets etc. are seen on people's wrists all the time and if your friend doesn't have one and they want one, that's probably an awesome gift to give them for their birthday
4. NECKLACES
best friend necklaces, birthday stone / flower necklaces, pearls, etc.
5. VIDEO GAMES
for DS, computers, or game systems plus it's great for guy best friends too!
6. MOVIES (DVDs)
Fast & Furious, The hunger games, frozen, ask what their favorite movies are and if they name one that they don't already have - buy them that!
7. CONCERT TICKETS
from Ariana to One Direction to Drake, if your best friend is into music or a certain artist big time, concert tickets are awesome. of course they ARE expensive, so make sure it's completely worth it and that your parents are okay with it and it's probably best to use your own money.

dresses, jeans, shorts, shirts, hats, etc.
9. UP-CYCLED CLOTHES
give them clothes that are especially theirs because they're up-cycled and exactly like them! if you don't know what up-cycling is, it's when you take clothes and you cut them or use beads, lace, etc. to make them your own!
1O. ART SET
if they're into drawing, painting, sketching, etc. buying them a drawing pad/canvas and an art set that includes paints, brushes, colored pencils, erasers, and sharpeners , etc. is a great gift
11. FAVORITE SUPERHERO MERCHANDISE
find out there favourite superhero or character and try to get them merch
12. BFF COLLAGE
if you have a lot of pictures of the two of you, print them and cut them and glue them onto paper and place it into a frame or a shadowbox frame if you want to include a bracelet etc.
13. JOURNAL AND PENCILS
if they like to write a lot and/or is an aspiring artist give them a journal and pencils because a computer isn't always so helpful in case something gets deleted by accident and can't be retraced.
14. FILM OR CAMERA
another expensive gift that should probably be bought wisely, but it's a creative gift for someone who shoots film or digital!
15. MAKEUP
whether your friend is actually secretly bethany mota or they just like using makeup , purchasing bb cream, eye shadow, lipstick / lip gloss , mascara , eyeliner , etc. is an excellent way to surprise them on their birthday!
16. ROAD TRIP / PLANE TICKETS
another expensive one if you're purchasing plane tickets, of course depending where you're going and where you live. a road trip to the grand canyon - a place they've always wanted to go - is not only a creative idea, but also gives you lots of time to spend with them on their special day (: for the plane tickets, however, going to paris takes a lot of money, maturity, and thought. I would NOT recommend going out of the country if you can't handle that. on the other hand, if you still want to go somewhere that's too far for a road trip, going to disney or canada's wonderland or somewhere along those lines is still an awesome present

although it would be best as a side gift, buying headbands is very helpful. it's even more helpful if you buy them bobby pins because chances are, even the most neatest people lose their bobby pins!

whether you go to claire's or ardene, earrings can be found in just about every mall. if your best friend has piercings, it could even be your guy friend, buying them earrings will give them more variety to choose from so they can switch it up every now and then !
21. BATHING SUITS
unless you live in a place where it's winter or fall time on their birthday, except california because they're mean lol, summer is either right around the corner or is already here and you can never have too many swimsuits! it doesn't matter whether it's a bikini, tankini, shorts, or a really cute one-piece as long as it fits and thought was put into it
22. ROOM DECOR
if they just moved or their parents are divorced and the other parent just moved into a new house or apartment, or maybe they just like decorating, buying them a lamp , bed sheets , decorations are amazing and I'm sure they'll appreciate it!
23. EARBUDS / HEADPHONES
I know from personal experience, and by that I mean at least 7 different pairs of ear buds in five months, that ear buds don't last forever and one of the buds will blow and you'll have to hold it in a certain position which only irritates the other wire which causes the second bud to blow so you can almost never listen to the actual song. headphones are a different story but they're still nice to have for backup or gaming, etc.
24. SPORT EQUIPMENT
does your friend play volleyball, baseball, softball, football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, swim, gymnastics, dance, perhaps even tennis..? if so, buying them clothes for it, or maybe even the ball / gear is SUPER helpful and your friend will be so thankful that you're their best friend!
25. iTUNES GIFT CARD
because everyone could use more money on their accounts
26. SKATEBOARD / ROLLER SKATES
if your best friend skateboards or roller skates a lot getting them new ones is [insert a good adjective that i haven't used yet please] for their birthday!

if they work out at the gym , take a class, or watch videos - weights , mats , the stretchy things (can you tell I don't work out with those much?) are important so if they had a pair or extras, they can use them for as long as they please

if you and your best friend are really inappropriate for your age, or maybe you're just young, buying them a watergun for water fights (*smirk*) gets the entertainment on!

I've seen the most creative phone cases with Apple phones but anyway, I can't think of one person with an apple iTouch, phone, and/or that doesn't have a collection of cases . why? because people love cases!
31. NAIL POLISH
I'm sorry, I'm losing my mind and it's late and hot. Uh, oh, nail polish is something most people use, if they're girls but guys can use it too, whether it's dressing up or just in their free time

making a craft for your best friend, i.e. studded shoes, shows that the thought really DOES count
33. SWEATSHIRTS
in the fall time or winter time, sometimes even spring or summer depending where you live, sweatshirts and hoodies sell a lot and not having to wear the same hoodie over and over again before it gets so dirty that you have to throw it away and buy a new one because it doesn't wash out anymore is super helpful
34. WII / XBOX / KINECT / PLAYSTATION GAMES
if your friend has one of these gamestations, or another one that i did not list, getting them games that they haven't beaten or could play on and on is probably one of the best gifts
35. COLLECTION ITEM
Snow globe collection, beanie baby collection, nail polish, coins, comic books, your best friend will absolutely die if you get them a new item for their collection!
36. BOARD GAMES
I realize that kids these days don't generally play board games that much but they do still make board games, and there's a reason why monopoly is so popular. your best friend doesn't have to be on their electronics all the time if they are!
37. STUFFED ANIMAL
this is geared towards younger kids (9, 10 , 11, because there might be kids reading this those ages and maybe even younger) but it can still be for teens like a teddy bear on valentine's day, stuffed animals are one of the sweetest gifts you can get and it can sometimes make someone feel so much better
38. BAND MERCHANDISE
one direction, fall out boy, panic! at the disco, 5sos, etc. if your best friend is REALLY into a certain band, buying bracelets, shirts, cds, posters, phone cases, etc. will freak them out (in a completely good way though)
39. BEACH TOWEL & SANDALS
IF you live in the northern hemisphere and their birthday is coming up in these few months or whenever summer comes for you beach towels and flip flops / sandals (or mandals as a lot of boys call them) are basically essentials for the scorching hot days and flip flops break SO easily if you have the ones that can pop out so having extras or just some with you is never a bad thing
4O. SOMETHING FROM WISHLIST
if you can't think of something but don't want to get them money, ask them if they have a wishlist on amazon or maybe they wrote one! just hope that someone else hasn't bought it for them (:
41. CANDLES
having your room smelling nice is always a good thing so if their parents trust them to have a candle or two in their room, buy one!

like I said, this is one where I was too focused on a commercial that was selling coffee makers so I don't know about this one aha. I guess you could go to starbucks , tim hortons, or a family / local coffee shop in your area and get their regular and bring it to them or a gift card to their favorite coffee shop.. Same with the tea
43. FOOD
make them breakfast in bed! it's something I haven't heard best friends doing for best friends so sleepover their house the day before their birthday and wake up before them to make them breakfast!
44. MONEY
If you absolutely positively can't think of anything either because they truly don't want anything or maybe you just can't afford anything they want, dig out some money and hand it to them with a card
45. PHOTO ALBUM
print photos of the two of you and make some memories with a scrapbook or photo album! it will be something to remember you by if something happens between your bond
46. BLANKETS
curling up by the fire or if it's just cold requires a blanket most times and lets face it, blankets are quite comfortable
47. CONVERSE / TOMS / VANS
are your best friends converse / toms / vans old and/or ratty? do they not fit? or do they just not have any but want some? these might cost a little more than $20 depending where you buy them from, but they are pretty comfortable and definitely stylish

did you think the last one was going to be this huge inspirational, special, nice, best friend-y, sappy gift idea like advice or being their best friend?
if so, sorry to disappoint. nope this is just throw pillows
you can make your own, too! all you need is a plain throw pillow, fabric paint, and a stencil (you can make your own with scissors and cardstock) and basically you paint on the throw pillow with the stencil! i've made two before.
