Color is linked to the perception of Taste: This goes back to "we eat with our eyes". Without even realizing we associate the color of certain foods with taste. For example we expect something that is black to taste bitter and we associate something Red like cherries to taste sweet.

Expectations of color can affect how Food tastes to us: Let's say we expect something that is green to taste citrusy and sour, if we see something green that ( might be sweet ) we might rule it out because we think it will taste citrusy and sour. Color Variety in Food can make it more satisfying: Think about the very popular "Fruit Platter" , this consists of a variety of fruits of all colors. Without even thinking we can deduce that if we were to take one of each fruit it will be more satisfying rather than taking the same fruits. “It has been shown that not only the colour itself, but also the variety and the arrangement of the differently-coloured components in a meal influence consumers’ ratings of the pleasantness of a meal (across time) and, to a certain extent, might even affect their consumption behaviour as well,” the authors of that study suggest.
