Ciao 2017! Last weekend saw the kick-start of the first major Fashion event on the 2017 fashion almanac, Milan Fashion Week. The Italian city of fashion, one of the most important fashion capitals in the world as a matter of fact, Milan, houses many fashion brands that boast classic and exquisite collections. Social media kept on buzzing through the entire weekend as 2017 pre-fall trends for men and women were finally put on blast through the much anticipated fashion week.
Thank God, It’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday……..! Highlights of this weekend include Alberta Ferretti’s collection of graphic knitwear of the days of the week printed on colourful, vibrant sweaters. That was only the first snippet. After the tier dubbed, “Rainbow Week”, were “Pre-Fall” and “Limited Edition” which were comprised of fresh and elegant pieces.

2017 is the year for intergalactic themed apparel as models strut down the Moschino runway in cosmos prints with hints of metallic details and accessories. It didn’t stop there, military inspired pieces, floral prints along with other creative explosive prints were also presented on the runway.

Prada goes retro with its collection of 70’s styled pieces. Suede, leather and fur fabrics appeared on the runway with beautiful earthy tones of burgundies, tans, greys and camels.

The Valentino fashion show was a reminder of how powerful and influential fashion can be. Pierpaolo Piccioli made it his job as creative director to inspire and relay messages through carefully chosen colors and themes within the collection. Valentino sought to impart sensations of hope and optimism for the New Year with the pre fall/winter collection. The message was certainly conveyed with the use of beautiful pastel pinks and blues, florals, sparkles and sequins.

The positive quote behind the look: "No matter how radically different, all authentic gestures speak the same language: human"

Milano brought 2017 fashion week to an electrifying start. I personally loved that the brands brought out positive and fun vibes in their collection. Furthermore, Jamaican presence on the runway last weekend was marvellous in the likes of Tami Williams. I am excited to see what the rest of the shows and fashion weeks have in store for us.
