Most free VPN for Windows (and other OS) keep logs despite their “no logs policy” (e.g. the recently exposed UFO VPN, Rabbit VPN etc.)

So yes, NordVPN is 100% secure. It can’t help law enforcement or other third-parties identify you even if it wanted to, there simply are no logs.

It too doesn’t store logs, but alike most other VPNs out there it’s not verified by any third-party or independent agency.

It supports 5 simultaneous logins. I do believe it’ll still cover most average households, won’t it?

It’s governed by the laws of the British Virgin Islands. Not as privacy-friendly as Panama, but acceptable.

The connection protocols are some of the strongest, they include OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, and IKEv2.

It also boasts a “TrustedServer Technology”. It basically is a feature which makes sure that all the data on a server is reset/deleted once it reboots. Nothing is “saved” on the servers.

It offers 53 countries to choose from which is an impressive number of choices.

The connection protocols too do not disappoint. It offers IKEv2, OpenVPN, and L2TP/IPSec.

The “no logs policy” exists and no session/identifiable information is stored.

One of its primary attractions is its unlimited simultaneous connections. You can use the same IPVanish account on as many devices as you’d want, no limits whatsoever.

Because it changes the IP address, it too can unblock blocked streaming services.

However, if you specifically need a Netflix unblocking VPN, you better go with one of the other choices mentioned above.

ProtonVPN, as the name hints, is from the globally-acclaimed, anti-surveillance anonymous email provider Protonmail.

For now, it boasts of 1019 servers and 51 country-choices. Being a new player in the grounds, that’s impressive.

Being from the Proton team, “trust” wasn’t a major issue anyway. But, its apps are still open-source and independently audited.

To further make things better, it’s based out of Switzerland. If there’s one country I like more than Panama for privacy, it’s Switzerland.

Its “secure core” is a feature similar to “multi hop”. The traffic is routed via multiple servers before finally leaving the exit node.

It only offers two connection protocols, IKEv2/IPSec and OpenVPN. Alike NordVPN, it opted out of offering “more” protocols even though they’re cheaper to operate, just because they’re less-secure.

It’s pretty serious about its security. Which is why it houses its servers 1000 meters below the ground, in military bunkers (not controlled by the military, ofcourse.)

Tor over VPN is supported as well just like NordVPN does in addition to P2P.

You can connect to 63 countries using Windscribe. The total location-count (when including cities) will be 110.

The no logs policy exists. This free VPN for Windows only logs your “bandwidth use” and the time of the last session. These are important so it can limit the free accounts.

As for the connection protocols, it supports IKEv2, OpenVPN, and stealth. I didn’t expect double hop to be present, but it is. It also supports P2P.

Has a split personality feature which rotates the user agents. In simpler words, makes it harder to trace/track you.

Split tunnelling is available as well which allows routing selected, specific apps via the VPN.

It has this fancy feature called ScribeForce. It’s basically a “team account” feature which allows creating VPN accounts for teams.

It does market itself as a content unblocker, while that’s true for most content, it doesn’t work great for Netflix libraries.

Another advanced feature is its R.O.B.E.R.T.  It basically is an ad blocker also protects you from malware, viruses and other harmful content.

The speed while obviously not as impressive as NordVPN, is actually better than quite a few paid VPNs out there.

They claim it to be better (actually, 2.5x faster than OpenVPN) in compatibility, speed and security than all the other commonly available protocols.

The free plan does exist, however, it’s limited at 2Mbps speed and 500MB daily data. Also, only 1 location i.e. the U.S is available to connect to.

Let me sum this entire piece up in a few words?

If you’re still not sure which VPN to go with; I’d say no VPN comes close to beating NordVPN. Ironically, it’s also the cheapest VPN on this list.

However, if you need a totally free VPN, Hotspot Shield is the best choice to go with.
