Kristiansund

When we were staying in Molde we took a day Trip up to the Town of Kristiansund. This was the furthest north we went on this trip. But this does not mean we were even close to the middle of Norway.

The town, formerly spelled Christianssund, was named after the Danish-Norwegian King Christian VI in 1742. The last element of the name, sund, means “strait”.

Before 1877, the name was written Christianssund, from 1877 to 1888 it was spelled Kristianssund, and since 1889 it has had its present spelling, Kristiansund.

The weather was better than the day before, but still a little grey. The walk around town was still nice and we escaped the little rain that came down.

We had a lovely steak sandwich for lunch and enjoyed the town a little before heading back south.

Today is election day here in Norway, so I am up to watch how the results will be.
