Visit to Tungenes lighthouse

A Monday I was off work and needed a little break from looking at all the work I was supposed to have done in the house. As the start of the day had mostly consisted of tidying, I was not feeling like doing too much more indoors. We got in the car and drove out to a Lighthouse to get away and go for some fresh sea air.

Tungenes Lighthouse is a coastal lighthouse that is in the municipality of Randaberg, the neighboring municipality to Stavanger where I live. The lighthouse is no longer in use, but it is used as a fine arts center and museum. Historically, the lighthouse was the main entrance to Byfjorden, the main fjord leading to the city of Stavanger.

Tungenes was first lit in 1828 at a time when the fishing and trade of herring increased the need for a safer entrance to the harbor of Stavanger. It was decommissioned and closed in 1984. Tungenes is now a protected site. It operates as a museum and cultural center and it holds concerts and art exibits.

After the walk we drove into Stavanger to go for a lovely meal because the sea air had made us a bit hungry. And then it was time to go back to the house
