Met Gala 2018

Like every year, the Met Gala 2018 was a huge craze amongst all the fashion enthusiasts across the globe. Considered as the Oscars of the fashion world, the Met Gala or the Costume Institute Gala at the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event of fashion that celebrates the launch of the fashion calendar based on fundraising. This year, stars twinkled once again from every realm of the fashion world to become a part of this celebration on 7th May.

The Met Gala 2018 was the 70th anniversary of the event and was chaired by Anna Wintour, the US Vogue editor-in-chief. It was co-chaired by the rock star Rihanna, fashion icons like Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace. Amongst all the stars spotted at the Gala, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Marc Jacobs were the most iconic personalities this year.

The theme of This Year: Changing its theme every year with a unique idea is the best part of the Met Gala festival and the theme of this year was ‘Heavenly Bodies, Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. Quite challenging and controversial, it amalgamated the Vatican fashion in an ensemble of 40 designer costumes that were inspired by the global Catholic fashion spanning 15 papacies. On displays were items like white silk cape of Pope Benedict XV and Pope Leo XIII’s bishop hat besides the creations of Coco Chanel and Donatella Versace.

The Red Carpet & Madonna’s Performance: Beginning sharp at 7 p.m., the red carpet’s coverage was the ultimate moment of the event, which showed the glimpse of the stars and fashion icons all draped beautifully in their own aura. This event was followed by the mesmerizing performance of Madonna. It was a surprise performance where the star created an awe-striking rendition of her number ‘Like A Prayer’.

The Cocktail Hour & Exhibition: Usually, the Met Gala begins with the cocktail party following the red carpet and the exhibition. This year was no exception and the exhibition inspired by Catholic fashion is the biggest controversies to date as it showcased fashion artifacts alongside the sacred artifacts. By challenging the idea of the sacred and the mortal, it brought into the concept that every art piece is beyond the boundary of morality if it is ethically justified as a true reflection of life. By breaking the stereotype of morality and bringing out life from the frozen sacred artifacts, the exhibition created history once again.

The Best Dressed: Here comes the most awaiting part of the event, the best-dressed personalities. Madonna presented herself draping her iconic Madonna halos while most of the stars went for High Renaissance theme. We spotted Rihanna in her Maison Margiela couture dress that accentuated beautifully with the minimal accessories and the Papal tiara to mention. The British beauty Richard Queen was spotted in her Amal Clooney couture dress that showed a truly contemporary take on the Papal couture. The star Solange was looking outstanding draping an Iris van Herpen gown from the fall 2012 collection.

These are the glimpses of the Met Gala 2018 not to miss! We are anxiously waiting to update you on the next Met Gala. Till then, stay stylish and unique!
