Hollywood definitely proved to give some movies a rebirth that was never imagined. Some of the flops turned out to be the best movies ever made; thanks to the release of video cassettes that made these movies a cult classic? Here’s a list of our top four picks that’s a must watch.

Shawshank Redemption

Did you know that Shawshank Redemption opened at No. 9 in the Box Office during its release and disappeared from the chart in the second week? Yep! That’s right. One of the best cult movies ever made wasn’t such a hit when it was released after all!

The movie then received 7 Academy Award nominations, and the publicity was taken to another level. The movie became one of the most rented titles of all times, and soon became popular by being ranked as ‘one of the best movies of all times’.

Blade Runner

The movie released, and received mixed critics reviews. The ‘out of the box’ reveals and amazing scenes wasn’t really appreciated, and the audience weren’t really excited about the movie.

But then came the release of home videos, and this movie went on to be called as one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. Long before robotic apocalyptic movies like Surrogates and I-Robot came into existence, this movie gave us a glimpse of how robots tend to stray from the eutopic vision they were created for. Must watch!!

Fight Club

The adaption Chuck Palahniuk’s novel didn’t really make it at the box office. The movie released and the marketing pitch had clearly failed due to the target audience that wasn’t really clear during the release. We had only some of the fight scenes being used to showcase the film. But, all thanks to the release of the DVD, the movie is now a classic of its generation, and is a part of many lists worldwide as ‘one of the must watch movies of Hollywood’.

The Big Lebowski

Produced and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, this classic case of mistaken identity spirals into series of misfortunes and hilarious mistakes. A must watch if you’re a big fan of the way Jeff Bridges embodies ‘The Dude’ mentality and sets in motion a casual swagger that gets embodied by generations to come. Don’t know about Ritten Tomatoes but we would definitely recommend this a must watch.

There were other movies like Showgirls, Willy Donnie Darko, The Room and Office Space that went on to become popular after the release of DVDs.
