What Not to Wear On a Date

We’ve all heard about the importance of making a good first impression. Usually the first impression of a person depends upon body language, appearance, and of course, clothes. A date is where first impressions play a huge role, and it’s crucial to dress right.

Irrespective of what you plan to do on a date, there are a few things that you must absolutely not wear. Whether you’ve planned a dinner date, a movie date, a brunch or just a ride together, here are five things you should never wear to a date.

Baseball hat

No matter where else you wear your beloved baseball hat, never wear it to a date. In general, wearing hats to a date isn’t appropriate, and more importantly, it sends out the wrong message, that you’re trying to hide something with the hat. Always ditch the hat when you’re getting dressed for date and invest time in an outfit that looks well put together.

Jewellery

Most women usually do not like jewellery on men. So if you turn up looking like a mannequin for a jewellery store, you can bet it’ll be the last time you’re seeing the girl. Even if you think you can pull it off, play safe and keep the studs, bracelets, and necklaces at home.

Running shoes

Yes, the ones you’d wear to the gym. This is one of the biggest turn-offs for women in a man, especially when you wear them to a date. Dress appropriately for the occasion and keep the running shoes for the gym.

Necktie

Unless you’re doing a formal dinner or coming to the date straight from work, ditch the tie. It gives the impression that you’re trying too hard and can also become uncomfortable after a while. Plus, keeping the tie away helps you do smart-casual better.

Sandals

Unless your date is at a garden party or by the poolside, it is wise to take the time to dress up and not turn up in sandals or flip-flops (no, not even the fancy espadrilles). Women don’t like feet. And if you have feet that’s badly in need of a pedicure, please keep them hidden for as long as possible.

Excess hair gel

A little bit of product to keep your hair in place is all right. But anything that makes your hair look sticky and greasy will never find favour with women. Keep your hair as natural as possible without using too much of any kind of styling products.

Loud or neon colours

Date outfits should be kept as subtle and understated as possible. Therefore, loud colours or hues like neon are a strict no-no. They look loud and gaudy, and will attract the wrong kind of attention, not to mention turn off your date.
