NOT EVEN ONCE!

As I sat there thinking about what I’m going to make my blog about, I said to myself ‘Do what you do best…’. So I decided to make my blog about my thoughts and opinions…Because I’m extremely good at letting people know what my opinions are.

So as I scrolled through my news-feed on both twitter and Facebook I stumbled upon an Advertisement. This advertisement wasn’t promoting a film or product. Nope, it was an Informative advert about a substance that is deadly. That ruins lives. It was about Meth. It contained a series of different scenarios about users of meth. All of which were about 10-15 seconds long. From younger people to middle aged people. Both male and female. It showed people about to try it, as well as people who are addicted. It showed how it alters the mind. However, they all contained the same message, don’t try meth – Not even once.

I’m usually not a fan of any kind of informative advertisements. I find them boring and very stereotypical, however, this one hit me straight it the ‘feels’ as people would say. The way the warning was conveyed was very graphic and detailed as they showed what effects, both physically and mentally, the dreadful substance has on people. It made me think about the ‘what if…’ and the ‘imagine if…’ questions and for an Informative Advert to do that shows how well the message was conveyed.

After processing the brilliant informative advertisement in my head, I do what I always do….I looked through the comments to see what people’s opinions were. I was expecting a lot of positive comments on the message that the video had…but to my surprise the comments were filled with ‘this was such an exaggeration’ to ‘this doesn’t happen to everybody’ some even said ‘people who are weak only get addicted’. I was stunned at the vast amount of these similar comments. What are these people thinking?? The video was supposed to inform the viewer of the danger of meth, not give scenarios that would have no Impact on the viewer. The substance is still very very dangerous and very very addictive. As well as showing their undeniable stupidity they are also undermining the power of the people who have overcome the addiction.

Blows my mind to think that people still think that these certain types of drugs will not have huge impact on your life. However, not all the comments were of this nature, some people shared their experience of addiction and rehab and those stories had just as much of an impact on me as the video itself. I guess I just have to focus on the positive and intelligent people, not the ones who think an ‘over exaggerated’ video informing young people on the dangers of meth is stupid.

I attached the video below.
