Top 5 Reasons To Move To Sanpete County

“The home should be the treasure chest of living.”

Le Corbusier

Someone asked me the other day, “What were your reasons to move to Sanpete County?”

I was taken back a bit by this question. For years now I have considered Sanpete County my home, even though I was raised in San Diego. I stopped and thought a bit before I answered.

As I was processing that question, I realized how often we forget all the wonderful things that are part of Sanpete County. The temple in Manti, the natural springs in Spring City, and the Sip It! soda shack in Ephraim are just a few of those things.

So if you are thinking of moving to a city in Sanpete County, or you need a reminder why Sanpete is so great, look no further. Here are my top 5 reasons to move to Sanpete County.

My Top 5 Reasons To Move To Sanpete County

1. Location

Sanpete County is centrally located in Utah and is surrounded by the Wasatch Plateau to the east and the Sanpitch Mountains to the west. This forms a beautiful valley with easy access to the mountains.

Although Sanpete is made up of small cities, some unincorporated, you are only a scenic drive away from larger places like Salt Lake City or recreational places like Moab, Utah.

The Wasatch Plateau rises up to around 11,000 feet in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. It is my nature wonderland. Most important, it is relaxing and quiet.

After visiting Sanpete County for the first time, I started to understand the serenity here. There is no persistent background noise like in San Diego. You don’t realize the toll the noise is taking until you sit and hear nothing but the wind and the wrestling of the leaves. Being in Sanpete gives you the chance to think uninterrupted.

I read a New York Times Article about philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer who, in 1850, pronounced noise to be the supreme archenemy of any serious thinker. After moving to Wales, Utah, I must agree. Sanpete County and its many cities provide some much needed peace and quiet.

2. Community

A solid community stands the tests of time and progress. Sanpete County’s community is made up of some amazing people that always seem willing to help someone in need. Residents here are mostly families that are active in the community. From Search and Rescue to the fire departments to the Sanpete Pantry, residents volunteer quite a bit and make Sanpete feel like home.

Perhaps Sanpete’s welcoming demeanor is due to its rich history, a history of people moving to the area that started with the pioneers sent by Brigham Young in 1849. In fact, if you look around Sanpete, you can see the pioneer influences in the historic homes of the area.

3. Events

What good is an awesome community if you don’t get to enjoy it?! Sanpete County puts on some of the best events in Utah.

  • The Manti Mormon Miracle Pageant: Draws over 15,000 people a night and features an amateur cast of over 500 members
  • Centerfield Beck Family Farms Straw Maze
  • Spring City Heritage Day
  • Several triatholons during the year
  • Radio Days: A personal favorite of mine that helps fund the Sanpete County Search and Rescue
  • Ephraim Scandinavian Heritage Festival
  • Fairview Pioneer Days and the Demolition Derby
  • Fountain Green Lamb Days
  • Gunnison Independance Day Celebration and Parade
  • Miss Moroni Pageant
  • Mount Pleasant Hub City Days and the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo
  • Spring City arts festivals

I didn’t include them all, but you can see more upcoming events at Sanpete.com/events.

4. Recreation

If you can do it outside, then Sanpete probably has it!

Whether you’re a simple hiker or an off-road enthusiast, Sanpete County has you covered. The mountains to the east and west provide a plethora of activities year round. Some of the activities I enjoy include hunting, fishing, off-roading, archery, and snowmobiling.

Sanpete is also home to Skyline Drive, an amazing road/trail running along the top of the east mountains. Too much fun can be had in those mountains!

5. Cost Of Living

Coming from a city like San Diego, the cost of living here in Sanpete county is amazing. Dollars go further and buy more, especially in real estate! *wink*

In fact, Utah’s cost of living is about 45% less than California’s. For more info on the cost of living in Sanpete, read The Real Cost Of Living In Sanpete County

Ok, so back to the question I was asked about why I moved to Sanpete County. I moved here for the breathtaking views, fantastic recreation, and attractive cost of living, and I stayed for the amazing family-driven community.
