A Federal Parliamentarian representing Ondo East and West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja has applauded Super Eagles on their victory over Iceland in the team’s second group match at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0 at the Volgograd Arena in a Group D match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, with the win pushing them into contention for qualification to the next phase of the tournament.

At the end of the encounter on Friday Hon. Akinlaja also extended his praise to the team’s coaching and technical crew for working hard to make the players achieve the victory and for doing the country proud.

The astute, affable and seasoned politician who currently chairs House Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream in the 8th Assembly have this to say:

”I think it is appropriate for every Nigerian with the spirit of patriotism to hail the Super Eagles for their indomitable spirit with which they fought to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and win a most memorable victory and doing us proud. The coaching and the technical crew also deserve our compliments.

I also salute the courage, patriotism, determination and dedication to national service exhibited by the Super Eagles on Friday (June 22, 2018) to all other Nigerians. I also join all other patriotic and well pleased Nigerians in praying for the success of our team. I urge the team to maintain their exemplary commitment to national duty until ultimate victory in the World Cup is achieved”. The Labour leader stated.

Akinlaja is a football enthusiast who in many occasion has sponsored and supported many football competitions and other sporting activities within and outside his constituency, in specific term, he has been consistently involved in the discovery and promotion of football talents and human capital development and has been a major financier of Ekimogun Football Club, Ondo.
