My October 2023 Simply Earth box has arrived!
Simply Earth is a monthly subscription box that sends you a selection of Essential oils along with recipes for enjoying them. A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed October’s theme: “Home Remedies”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
October’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Forest Breath Balm
- Respiration Aid Roll-On
- Healthy Home Diffuser Blend
- Calming Aromatherapy Rice Bag
- Stinky Feet Spray
- Breathe Easy Shower Steamer
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.

Simply Earth Ravensara Essential Oil
Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.
Though I hadn’t been aware of this oil before receiving it in this month’s box, Ravensara essential oil is considered by the people of Madagascar as “the oil that heals”. Featuring a woody/medicinal scent, it’s long been recognized as a powerful tool to relax muscles, boost immunity, and support respiration.
Simply Earth Cypress Essential Oil
Cypress essential oil is known for its aromatic properties that help with emotional stability and relaxation. It’s also great for cleansing the skin, supporting joint function, relaxing muscles, promoting immunity, and deodorizing.
Simply Earth Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense has been used throughout history, with its most notable appearances in the Bible and in ancient Egypt. Back in the day, it was mostly used for incense, treating wounds, and easing arthritis. These days we often use this spicy/woody oil to help with promoting immunity, aiding in digestion, supporting joint function, improving sleep, and more.
Simply Earth Breath Easy Essential Oil Blend
“Breath Easy” is an earthy blend specifically designed to support respiratory health and help you breath a little easier. It contains a calming combination of lavender 40/42, cypress, eucalyptus, marjoram, peppermint, lemon eucalyptus, and black spruce oils.
Aromatherapy Rice Bag
A small fillable pillow (white) and pillowcase (patterned) were provided to make a soothing hot/cold rice bag. Both are made of 100% cotton and should be hand washed when needed.
Menthol Crystals
A packet of menthol crystals was provided to use in some of the recipes featured in this month’s box. Derived from the peppermint plant, menthol has a natural cooling and soothing effect. The crystals need to be melted down and blended with a carrier oil in order to utilize them.
Plastic Amber Spray Bottle
Lastly, a 4-ounce plastic amber spray bottle was provided to utilize with the “Stinky Feet Spray” recipe.
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
Forest Breath Balm
Supplies needed: Coconut Oil (solid)*, Almond Oil*, Beeswax*, Menthol Crystals, Breath Easy Essential Oil Blend, Cypress Essential Oil, Ravensara Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, and an empty jar.

The first step in making this chest rub was to melt together the solid coconut oil, almond oil, and beeswax.
Once melted, I added the menthol crystals & specified essential oils and poured the mixture into an empty jar. (The recipe called for a 4oz jar, but I only had a 2oz one so I halved the recipe so it would fit.)
I then allowed it to set/harden for a few hours and it was good to go!
Such a great (all natural!) alternative to store-bought chest rub.
Stinky Feet Spray
Supplies needed: Menthol Crystals, Fractionated Coconut Oil*, Ravensara Essential Oil, Cypress Essential Oil, Breath Easy Essential Oil Blend, Frankincense Essential Oil, 40z Spray Bottle, and distilled water.

This was a super easy recipe that first had me melting together the fractionated coconut oil and menthol crystals.
Once fully liquified, I then added the essential oils.
That mixture was poured into the provided spray bottle and topped off with water. Then I simply screwed on the nozzle and added the label. So easy! — I just wish I had this handy in the summer when my kids chose not to wear socks with their sneakers.
Breathe Easy Shower Steamer
Supplies needed: Coconut Oil (solid)*, Menthol Crystals, Breathe Easy Essential Oil Blend, Baking Soda, and a silicone mold or ice cube tray.

To begin, I needed to heat the solid coconut oil until just melted.
Once melted, I added the menthol crystals, essential oils, and baking soda.
I carefully stirred the mixture until it took on a thicker, dough-like consistency.
Finally, I filled my silicone mold right to the top. (Well, over the top.)
After letting it set/harden over night, I popped it out of the mold and it was ready to be used. — I hindsight, I probably should have used a couple smaller molds but I can easily break this apart for multiple uses.
Healthy Home Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Breathe Easy Essential Oil and Ravansara Essential Oil.
The easiest of all the recipes, it simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the soothing aroma fill the room.
Respiration Aid Roll-On Blend
Supplies needed: Breathe Easy Essential Oil Blend, Cypress Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, fractionated coconut oil*, and a 10mL Roll-On Bottle*.

Another easy recipe that simply involved placing a specified amount of essential oils drops into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with fractionated coconut oil.
Then just replace the cap and carefully position the sticker/label & you’re done!
Calming Aromatherapy Rice Bag
Supplies needed: Aromatherapy Pillow, Cypress Essential Oil, Rice, and 5 Cotton Balls.
The final “recipe” simply required me to fill the provided zippered bag with rice and slide it into the printed fabric cover.
To use as a hot/cold pad, just pop it in the freezer/microwave in 30 second increments. If you’d like to scent it with essential oil, heat it up first and then add oil-doused cotton balls to the bag. (Microwaving it with the oils will evaporate them.)
