Think Outside Junior is a monthly subscription box that focuses on the What & Why questions of nature — making it fun for kids to get outside and explore.
Designed for kids ages 4 to 7, Think Outside Junior boxes are developed alongside teachers to help get kids excited about the outdoors while learning new things. Each subscription starts with an Intro kit, followed by 24 months of themed packages to help little explorers answer some of nature’s biggest questions. The first box (starter box) will feature a collection of items to get them started on their outdoor exploration journey including a canvas satchel, walkie-talkie set, Explorer Pass, bingo game, activity book, and more. Future shipments will explore a different question related to the outdoors, such as: What’s a mammal? or Why do stars only shine at night?. Materials will include:

Everything was shipped in a small brown box with yellow outdoors themed graphics.
A peek inside!
Since this is the first box in the series, it included a welcome letter from Sam and Sky that explained what to expect over the course of the subscription. The reverse side was printed with instructions for how to make a simple paper airplane.
Activity Booklet
A full color, 16-page booklet included lots of fun outdoor-based games, activities, challenges, and more. It also provided rules for the outdoor bingo game featured in this month’s box.
Canvas Satchel
Part of the fun of exploring nature (for kiddos, anyway) is bringing home foraged souvenirs. The roomy satchel above is perfect for holding acorns, leaves, chestnuts, feathers, and any other interesting specimens your kids may come across on their adventures. (It’s also great for storing snacks, gear, and water!) It features multiple zippered pockets, an adjustable crossbody strap, and a magnetic flap closure. Such a useful outdoor accessory!
Explorer Pass and Badge
The explorer pass above is to be used as a passport for the outdoors. Each month will include a new sticker/badge that can be placed on the pages inside until you’ve collected all 25. The first badge featured an adorable cat — “Kat the Kitten”, who’s the animal helper for this month.
Multi-Color Pen
I remember these multi-color pens being all the rage in the 80’s… But ours only had four colors back in the day. This one includes six and is perfect for filling out the explorer pass in style.
Walkie-Talkie Set
My girls were SO excited to see this set of walkie-talkies in the box. — And it was quite fitting that the model name is “Twintalker”. I haven’t used a walkie talkie since I was a kid, so I was very impressed to see how much cooler they are now. This set features built-in flashlights, audio jacks, call tones, and more. They’re also very LOUD. Awesome for the outdoors, but a wee bit annoying inside.
Flash Cards & Metal Ring
Each box will include a set of theme-based flash cards that can be clipped onto the metal ring above. The cards are made of thin plastic to withstand the weather and include fun facts about the outdoors/nature.
Outdoor Bingo & Dry Erase Crayons
It’s a scavenger hunt and bingo game in one! The laminated bingo boards above are printed with images (and text on the reverse side) of common items/creatures you may find outdoors. Each time you encounter an “item”, you can cross it out using the provided dry erase crayons. The first one to get 4 in a row is the winner!
Nature Facts/Postcard
A 2-sided card included fun facts about nature, a word search game, and a postcard to mail to friends.
Activity Checklist
The final item was a checklist of ideas for fun things you can do before your next box arrives. Ideas include: have a pillow fight, build a fort, draw a picture of your family, play hide & seek, organize a movie night, and more.
