Time for another Bokksu review!
If you haven’t heard, Bokksu is a subscription box that delivers an assortment of premium Japanese snacks and tea pairings to your door every month. Each box will contain a selection of 13 to 15 premium Japanese snacks and a tea pairing curated around a cultural theme. You’ll also receive a Tasting Guide that explains how to best enjoy the items, along with information on their background and how they came to be. Unlike other Japanese snack boxes, Bokksu directly sources its artisanal snacks from local snack makers in Japan. They’re also the only service that hand selects a tea pairing for each box to complement that month’s flavors.

A peek inside! — November’s theme was “Artisanal Kyoto”.
An information card listed all of the items in the box, along with photos, descriptions, and allergen info for each one.
Ishida Roho Kyoto Iroha Financier Cake – “Financier” is a small rectangular French almond cake whose namesake is due to its resemblance to a bar of gold. Two flavors were included in December’s box — vanilla & matcha — both of which have a light, moist texture and smooth, buttery taste.
Ishida Roho Kyoto Anna Monaka – These snacks consist of a pair of crispy wafers and a packet of red bean filling. You can build a “sandwich” by filling both hollowed portions of the wafers with the bean paste and enclosing them together. Two different varieties were included — red bean and smooth red bean.
Wako Yumemi Koji Manju – Manju is a Japanese treat made with flour, rice powder, and buckwheat with a red bean filling. Two flavors of this traditional snack were included — chestnut and plain.
Nestle Matcha Kit Kat – These matcha flavored Kit Kats are a popular treat in Japan. They’re made with premium matcha from Uji city in Kyoto Prefecture, which is known for their exceptional green tea.
Narumiya Black Bean Okaki – Okaki is a crispy rice cracker made with glutinous rice which gives it a firmer, chewier texture than normal senbei. These savory crackers are made with real black beans that you can clearly see studded throughout.
Malebranche Maru Cha Cha – These are thin & crispy matcha biscuits made with concentrated green tea (koicha) for a richer flavor. Most matcha snacks use “usucha”, a lighter tea with a more mellow taste.
Ito En Matcha Green Tea – Authentic Japanese style matcha green tea that contains a combination of both matcha powder and fresh Sencha leaves for an earthy, yet vibrant flavor.

Summary
A nice alternative to the majority of Japanese snack boxes which feature mostly brightly packaged gimmicky type snacks.
