Food Review: Poon Confectionery's Chinese New Year Goodies by CNY Delivery

Hi lovelies,

Chinese New Year is just around the corner! It is the time for celebration, house visiting, feasting, indulgence and perhaps, physical rest for some.

In the chinese culture, Chinese New Year is not complete without some tasty traditional goodies, am I right? Having CNY goodies at home is a common practice and childhood memory for many Chinese families in Singapore.

Lately, I tasted a brand that sells homemade CNY goodies and would like to share about their CNY goodies.

First up is their Golden Pillow Pineapple Tarts.

In the chinese culture, pineapple tart is a must have as it represents prosperity and wealth. The golden pillow shape is also a representation of gold bar which makes this an auspicious CNY goody to have. In terms of taste, this pineapple tart is highly raved in my family and everyone loves it. It has a soft buttery crust that melts in the mouth. The filling is made of real pineapple fruit and of appropriate level of sweetness that made us unable to stop at one. This is just too tasty and addictive! Highly recommended!

My rating: 4.5/5

Next, is their Hae Bee Hiam Sambal Prawn Roll (虾米条).

Prawns and shrimps in the chinese culture represents smiles and of a good year ahead.
In Singapore, we like our prawn roll a little spicy and this prawn roll from Poon Confectionery is made with the right level of spiciness. Their prawn roll is flavourful and the slight spiciness kicks in afterwards but it is manageable and soon you will find yourself reaching for the next piece after the other. Another fantastic and tasty CNY goody!

This is their Green Pea Cookie (青豆饼).

Green pea represents the season of harvest and a prosperous new year. It being green in colour also represents ever youth and beauty. Green pea Cookie is a traditional goody but not everyone will have for CNY as it is not easy to get good tasting green pea cookie in the market. However, from Poon Confectionery, we are surprised by the natural sweetness and crunchiness from the Green peas together with the buttery cookie and the light salty taste, creating a perfect blend of taste in the mouth yet without the artificial taste or extreme sugar added sweetness. This Green Pea cookie is surely worth getting.

My rating: 4/5

Lastly, this is their Almond Cookies (杏仁酥饼)

I am not sure what almond represents in the chinese culture but if it is classified under nuts, it would represent the abundance of offspring. I do not remember our family having almond cookies for CNY but I guess almond is starting to be a well-accepted CNY goody due to its natural sweet flavour and the crunchy texture it adds to the cookie. Anyways, I love the buttery taste of this cookie together with the chunks of almond bits in it, a very tasty cookie in overall.

My rating: 4/5
