Indian Badminton Star PV Sindhu continued to reach new heights as she became the second Indian woman to break into the top 5 in the latest BWF World Rankings.

The Olympic silver medallist, who had made it to the top 10 in 2013, achieved her career-best of No. 5 in the rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Badminton Star PV Sindhu from Hyderabad has 69399 points in her kitty, while London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal is the only other Indian woman in the top 10 at 9th position.

Last season Sindhu had the best year of her career when she grabbed the silver medal at the Rio Olympics. She also grabbed her maiden Super Series title by winning the China Open and then reached the finals at Hong Kong Super Series to qualify for the prestigious BWF World Super Series Final in Dubai.

Ajay Jayaram is the best-placed Indian at World No. 18, while K Srikanth and H S Prannoy are at the 21st and 23rd spots respectively in men’s singles.

In world ranking, Men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy is at the 24th place while the duo of N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra is at the 14th place.

Sindhu was delighted and said the No.1 rank remains her goal. Sindhu said“When I started playing in 2016 I never thought I would break into top 5 within a year. This is quite unexpected,” she said. Her next target is to be World No. 3. “I want to do well and win tournaments. I want to be No. 3 by the end of the year. But to achieve that I need to work really hard. Hopefully, I will give my best,”.
