Raechelle Chase, a fitness advocate and Figure pro bodybuilder, died unexpectedly, according to sources on Friday morning. Chase died earlier this month.

Anna Chase, Chase’s eldest child, confirmed the news in a statement obtained by News.com.au.

The cause of Chase’s death is yet unknown, although a police inquiry is underway in New Zealand. The news of Chase’s death shocked many of her friends and followers. Chase was characterized by friend Keith O’Connell as having one of the “kindest and most beautiful souls.”

Raechelle Chase was born in 1979 in New Zealand. Throughout her childhood, she was extensively involved in competitive athletics. Raechelle began her gymnastics career while also engaging in netball and surfing. Aside from sports, she pursued a career in fashion modeling, appearing in her first fashion show at the age of five.

Raechelle began working part-time in a gym selling memberships at the age of 16 to supplement her income. Raechelle’s interest in weightlifting was triggered not long after she began selling gym memberships, as she saw some fantastic physiques in the gym and was inspired to really get into it.

Chase competed in the Figure division of the IFBB. Her achievements include placing third in both the Melbourne Pro and the NZ Pro in Figure. She created history in 2011 when she became the first Kiwi woman to compete in the Olympics. She came in 16th place in the competition.
