Officer Randolph Scott Gaddy, of San Marcos, Texas, was killed in the line of duty. The awful news of his death broke our hearts on October 18, 2023. Officer Gaddy, also known as R. Gaddy, was a committed police officer whose dedication and laughter left an indelible impression on anyone who had the honor of working with him. Officer Gaddy’s dedication to his job and steadfast commitment to the community were clear in the long hours he put in. He was more than just a coworker; he was a mentor who shared his knowledge and experience with his colleagues.

Officer Gaddy trained several cops, who benefited from his experience and sense of humor. He worked on the 2B night shift, where he made friends and made memories. Even as times changed, his imprint remained, demonstrating his lasting influence. Officer Gaddy’s extraordinary path had been distinguished by a devotion to excellence, and he was on the verge of a well-deserved promotion to Sergeant, a monument to his unrelenting commitment to his job and his community.

Our hearts were broken when we learned of his terrible death in an automobile accident while on duty. Officer Gaddy was on his way to pick up inmates when he was engaged in a head-on collision with another car.

His death is a tragedy not only for the San Marcos Police Department, but for the entire community. Officer Gaddy was well-known not only for his dedication to his job, but also for his exceptional personality. He was a wonderful, witty, and humble man who made a difference in the lives of those who knew him. His absence leaves an unfillable vacuum, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
