Cheryl Steffen Obituary-Death News; A Custodian At The University Of Northern Lowa, Cheryl Steffen Passes Away in Waterloo

Sadly, Jesup, Iowa resident Cheryl Steffen, a custodian at the University of Northern Iowa, passed away. At the age of 64, she passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, surrounded by her cherished family.

In the emergency department of Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, she was declared deceased. At the time this report was written, the circumstances surrounding Cheryl Steffen’s real cause of death were unknown.

Born in Waterloo, Iowa, on July 29, 1959, Cheryl is the daughter of Ernest Peter Hemmer and Thelma Esther (Harrington) Hemmer. Following her graduation from Jesup High School in 1977, she attended Hawkeye Community College to continue her education.

On May 31, 2014, she married Michael Francis Steffen in Gilbertville. Cheryl was more than simply a coworker to those who knew her; she was a loving and nurturing person who fulfilled important duties as a committed wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Michael of Dunkerton; one son, Nicholas Schmitz and fiancé| Miguel Rodriguez of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Elizabeth Nordin of Dunkerton, Kathryn Schmitz (Becks Jordan) of Queen Creek, AZ.

One step-daughter, Lauren (Aaron) Aguilar of Westgate, IA; two step-sons, Eddie (Katelyn) Steffen of Richmond Hill, GA, Sam Steffen of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, Steven and Axl Aguilar, Mavrick & McKenna Steffen, Avery and Felicity Nordin; also, 3 brothers, Larry (Florence) Hemmer of Indianapolis, IN, Jack (Nikki) Hemmer of Jesup, Steve (Blane) Hemmer of Minneapolis, MN. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joshua Michael Schmitz; 2 brothers, Tom and Bob Hemmer; and one sister, Janice Youngblut.
