Luiz Lopez-Garcia Death News: 24-Year-Old Man, Luiz Lopez-Garcia Dies in Fatal Monroe Shooting

Luiz Lopez-Garcia Death: Monroe Police officers responded to the 1800 block of Walkup Ave. at approximately 9:41 p.m. on October 14 in response to an incident involving gun fire.

Once on scene, officers found one male deceased. He has been identified as Luiz Lopez-Garcia (DOB: 11/23/1998). Detectives have classified this as a homicide investigation.

After speaking with witnesses and viewing camera footage obtained during the investigation, a suspect was identified and, due to the juvenile age of the offender, a secured custody order was sought and issued through the NC Department of Juvenile Justice. The suspect’s identity will not be released due to their age.

Law enforcement is actively working to locate the suspect and take them into custody.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family as they deal with this tragic loss,” said Monroe Police Chief J. Bryan Gilliard. “We will not tolerate senseless acts of violence like this in our community, and our officers will not rest until the perpetrator has been brought to justice.”
