Jack Sandlin Obituary – Death: United States Army Veteran and Indiana State Senator, Jack Sandlin Passes Away

Jack Sandlin Obituary: Jack Sandlin, a Republican member of the Indiana Senate representing District 36 since 2016, has died.

Marion County Republican Party Chairman Joe Elsener released the following statement Wednesday night confirming Sandlin’s passing.

Mark Myers for Mayor share the devastating news on his official Facebook page, saying, “This evening, we received the tragic news of the passing of my great personal friend and colleague, Senator Jack Sandlin. I find it difficult to find the words to describe a man that was so larger-than-life, but I will try. Jack Sandlin was a United States Army Veteran, a dedicated member of our law enforcement, and an Indianapolis City Councilman and State Senator. And more than anything, Jack Sandlin was a loving and loyal husband, father, and grandfather. I first met Jack while we served together with the Southport Police Department. He was always tough, as anyone who knew Jack could attest, but Jack was always fair, always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone, and always the definition of a public servant. My prayers are with his wonderful wife, Lydia, their daughter, Carrie, and his three grandchildren. He loved them more than anything. I will miss my friend.”

More Abut Jack Sandlin

Sandlin’s four-year term in the Senate was to expire in November 2024. He joined the Senate in 2016 after serving on the Indianapolis City-County Council since 2010. From 1997 to 2006, he was trustee of Perry Township in southern Marion County.

He’d formerly worked for the Indianapolis and Southport police departments, and his knowledge of criminal justice had led to him as Senate leader on public safety matters. Sandlin also led the fraud examination business.

Sandlin earned an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Indianapolis, and an associate degree in criminal justice from UIndy. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School.

He had served in the U.S. Army military police in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

From 2016 onward, Sandlin served as a Senate member, representing the southern part of Marion County as well as northern Johnson County.
