5 Things I’ve learned as an events intern

I’m Chloe, you might remember me from previous Grooveyard blog posts such as “Life as an Events Intern: Getting your foot in the door“.

So, the time has come for me to bid adieu to Grooveyard and head back to college to complete my degree. There are many things I have picked up and Learned during my time with the company and 5 of the more prominent examples that I would have loved to have known starting my internship;

  1. Mental Prep: Before endeavoring on a the first major stepping stone of your career you need to do your research, get to know the company you’re going to work for and discover what recent projects they have undertaken.
  2. Be prepared to move at 100 mph: This is an extremely fast paced industry and it will not slow down for anyone or anything. You want to succeed? Go 130 mph!
  3. Ask questions: Asking questions will not only save you time but also save you from pulling your own hair out. Insert famous Grooveyard office saying “There’s no such thing as a stupid question, unless you ask it twice.”
  4. Don’t be afraid: Your opinion is valued. Your opinion is wanted. And it is needed! Just because you are in the learning stages of your career doesn’t mean you haven’t managed to pick up something that could be beneficial to the company. Speak Up!
  5. Enjoy it. Simple as that – work will always come first and you must strive to meet deadlines. Always. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your time, make friends and enjoy the events you work at.
