In this blog post, I’ll compare Kartra with Clickfunnels and help you decide which one is the best for setting up your online business.

ClickFunnels and Kartra are two of the best-advanced marketing platforms available today. Previously ClickFunnels was more of a funnel-building platform. Recently it has introduced its brand new version, ClickFunnels 2.0, which is a full-fledged marketing platform.

Kartra has excellent marketing features like dynamic OTOs, behavioral adaptive marketing, and agency features.

I’ll be going through in detail, how these tools compare with each other considering features like funnel building, page building, email marketing, memberships, marketing, and many other features.

Hopefully, at the end of this comparison, you’ll be able to decide which one to go with – Kartra or ClickFunnels 2.0.

Let’s get in.

What do I like about Kartra over ClickFunnels 2.0?

  • Kartra’s page-building experience is really good compared to ClickFunnels. For each block, Kartra gives more than 10+ templates to design the pages quickly. While ClickFunnels 2.0 has very few templates (barely 5+), Kartra gives more page templates than ClickFunnels.
  • With Kartra, you can split-test the landing pages, opt-ins, emails, etc. (up to 4 variations). While ClickFunnels allows only split test the pages. It lacks email split testing (up to 2 variations).
  • Kartra has a dedicated membership site builder, which is very powerful and feature-rich. With its WYSIWYG editor, you can create beautiful memberships that convert well. You can create different membership tiers, drip-feed the content, password-protect the content, etc. ClickFunnels lacks dedicated memberships. You need to use its funnel pages and courses combined to create the memberships.
  • The Behavioral Adaptive Marketing (BAM) feature provided by Kartra is advanced. It allows you to dynamically change the page’s texts, CTAs, colors, etc., based on visitor demographics, behaviors, and other data. It’s a huge conversion booster. ClickFunnels lacks this.
  • Kartra’s dynamic OTOs help in increasing conversions. These let you redirect your customers to different OTOs based on their previous transactions or behaviors. This is something ClickFunnels does not offer.

While ClickFunnels lacks dedicated memberships, courses (just very basic ones), survey builders, and agency tools which may need integration with third-party services.
  • It comes with the Kartra help desk feature. With this, you can handle tickets, knowledgebase, and live chat support without wasting money on tools like Drift or Intercom.
  • Kartra has an agency feature that is entirely white-labeled. This would be great for you to handle and manage all the client websites in a single dashboard. To ease the sign-in process, it has a secure master login feature as well.

What do I like about ClickFunnels 2.0 over Kartra?

  • ClickFunnels interface is very user-friendly and loads faster, while Kartra’s interface loads slower and is clunky. You can access all ClickFunnels features within 3 to 4 clicks, while in the case of Kartra, the features are nested, and you need to dig in deep to access all the features.
  • ClickFunnels offers FunnelFlix and many other training webinars. FunnelFlix is similar to Netflix for streaming high-quality marketing content created and sometimes curated by Russell Brunson.
  • ClickFunnels 2.0 has a really good affiliate program, in case you want to promote it. Some people are making 7-8 figure income promoting ClickFunnels.

Latest product updates

Recently, Kartra has introduced several updates –

  • Floating video player
  • Floating video player
  • Video time segments
  • Resumable video
  • Downloadable video transcripts
  • Integration with Square payments
  • Lead source tracking
  • Comment command center

ClickFunnels biggest product update itself is the release of its 2.0 version. They are still developing the product. They are working on features like follow-up sequences, affiliate programs, new workflow triggers, etc.

Upfront Bottomline

Kartra is a perfect choice if you are an eCommerce store owner, marketer, or agency handling multiple clients. Its USPs – Behavioural adaptive marketing, dynamic OTOs, checkouts, and one-click transactions help increase sales and conversions.

ClickFunnels is the best if you want to build more sales funnels for your business. Its funnel canvas and workflows help you build complex funnels easily and quickly.

Interface and ease of use

When you log in to ClickFunnels, this is what the interface looks like. You can access all its tools in the right sidebar. The interface is very minimal, neat, and user-friendly.

Compared to ClickFunnels, Kartra’s interface loads very slowly. Also, its features are nested inside, so you must go through at least 8 to 9 clicks to create a product, a membership site, or a funnel.

If you are a beginner, you need some learning curve to use Kartra.

Winner: ClickFunnels. Using ClickFunnels is a breeze, while with Kartra, you will get frustrated with its clunky interface and slowness.

Online course creation

Kartra doesn’t have a dedicated course builder. It just has Kartra Videos, with which you can either sell single videos or series of videos (say training videos).

ClickFunnels 1.0 was also lacking a courses feature. But in the updated 2.0 version, they have introduced a dedicated course builder, which is similar to that of Kajabi.

Kartra has built-in video hosting and supports unlimited bandwidth. While ClickFunnels doesn’t host your videos, you must use tools like Vimeo or Wistia.

ClickFunnels has 3-course templates for you to begin with – Blank course, basic course, and nested course.

Its course curriculum consists of modules and lessons. You can drip schedule or lock the modules until the previous ones are completed.

ClickFunnels courses have just the basic LMS features. They are not powerful as dedicated LMS tools like Teachable or Thinkific, as they need course compliance features, course completion certificates, comments, etc.

Neither Kartra nor ClickFunnels support cloud uploading from tools like Dropbox & Google Drive. Kartra supports bulk video uploading to save time.

For adding the course content, Kartra supports only the video content, while ClickFunnels supports text, images, videos, embeds, etc.

ClickFunnels has a lesson template. By default, all the lessons you create will import that structure. If you want to edit the lesson structure, you need to edit the template itself. Adding lesson content is not as flexible as in tools like Kajabi.

Kartra videos excel over ClickFunnels with its interactive video features. You can add –

  • Splash images
  • Logo watermarks
  • Closed captions
  • Show/hide the controls
  • Show social share
  • Show playback speed, etc.

These features increase the engagement rate and the video watch duration. ClickFunnels lacks these.

Winner: If you are a beginner course creator, ClickFunnels courses would be enough to start with. If you are an advanced course creator and need more LMS features, consider tools like Teachable.

Memberships

Both these tools support memberships. Kartra has a dedicated membership site builder, whereas, in the case of ClickFunnels, you need to use funnels, pages, and courses combined to create the membership sites.

Kartra’s membership site builder has headers and sidebar content widgets like featured posts, progress bars, banners, and post content widgets like text, images, videos, buttons, etc.

Kartra allows you to create as many membership levels as you want. You can drip-feed the content, enable comments for each post, send the new post unlock emails, automate the membership tasks, and much more.

The best thing is you can automate the membership tasks. Like –

When a member subscribes, you can –

  • Add a tag.
  • Assign to a list.
  • Subscribe them to a sequence.

Also, automate scenarios like –

  • Lead is granted access to membership.
  • Access is revoked.
  • Lead completes the access levels.

Kartra has a dedicated membership site portal. Here you can create a customized membership portal with branded logo and add a helpdesk.

Winner: Kartra. Kartra has a dedicated membership builder with drag and drop editor, has site portal, and customization features. ClickFunnels lacks these, and as a workaround, you need to use its funnels + pages + courses to sell membership sites, which is a struggle.

Design and page builder

Kartra and ClickFunnels have a dedicated landing page builder. ClickFunnels 2.0 has an improved page-building experience than its previous version.

ClickFunnels adopted Kartra’s page-building features; you will find both interfaces very similar. You will feel like you are using dedicated page builders like Elementor.

Both these tools provide block templates to design the pages quickly. There are also page templates available. Kartra has more templates than ClickFunnels. For example, you have templates for titles, text, CTAs, opt-ins, footers, testimonials, FAQs, etc.

For designing the site, Kartra and ClickFunnels give you access to the site builder. You can design the entire website and the pages using their site builder.

With ClickFunnels 2.0, you can custom code the theme using its power editor. Kartra allows you to use embed code blocks for this, but it is not flexible as ClickFunnels.

One unique feature of ClickFunnels 2.0 is that it has universal sections. It allows you to create global sections to use anywhere on your website. Any changes made reflect across all the elements.

Winner: Kartra. Kartra’s page builder is more flexible, and it has more design options, templates, and blocks than compared to ClickFunnels. But I liked the flexibility ClickFunnels provides with its power editor for custom coding.

Funnel building and automations

Funnels are the most vital part of both these tools.

ClickFunnels 2.0 has its main area called “FunnelHub,” where you can manage all your funnel pages and the site pages.

Kartra calls its funnel campaigns. It has ready-made funnels called “Done for you” campaigns built by experts like Frank Kern, Andy Jenkins, and other Kartra members. ClickFunnels 2.0 also has funnel recipes. Kartra has more funnel templates (50+) compared to ClickFunnels (15+).

Kartra also offers a marketplace where you can sell your funnels for a fee and earn money. This type of marketplace is lacking in ClickFunnels.

Kartra’s campaigns are made up of several assets that you can import with a single click and customize as needed. To build powerful and complex funnels, you can combine them with automations. It has a blank canvas to design your funnels.

ClickFunnels 2.0 has funnel automations called as “workflows”. While Kartra calls them as sequences.

With Kartra you can add sequences like –

  • Send an email.
  • Send SMS.
  • Add or remove the tag.
  • (Un) Subscribe to list.
  • (Un) Subscribe to sequence.
  • Automation.
  • Split the path (conditional IF ELSE).
  • Goto.
  • Wait.
  • Complete.

Here are the workflow rules available in ClickFunnels 2.0 –

  • Send an email.
  • Add or remove a tag.
  • Add notes to your contact’s profile.
  • Set notifications for you.
  • Trigger the Webhooks to pass information from ClickFunnels to your 3rd party app.
  • Enroll customers in courses.

Note: ClickFunnels 2.0 funnels are very similar to pipelines in Kajabi. You will find both the interface and funnel features very similar.

ClickFunnels canvas builder helps you visualize the funnels, and it replaces funnel simulation tools like Geru and Funnelytics. In the canvas, you can edit the funnels, add new pages, view the funnel stats, etc.

Winner: ClickFunnels. Compared to Kartra, building funnels in ClickFunnels is easy. You can combine them with workflow rules (automation triggers) to build complex funnels.

Email marketing and CRM

Kartra has its built-in email marketing tool – KartraMail and is more powerful than ClickFunnels.

With KartraMail you can send both email broadcasts and sequences, while ClickFunnels 2.0, as of now, only supports broadcast emails.

To create the emails, Kartra just has a text editor, while ClickFunnels has a drag-and-drop email editor. Both have enough templates to design the emails. With both, you can create your own custom fields to collect all the data you need.

Split testing:

Kartra supports email split testing. You can split test emails up to 4 variations. To personalize the emails, there are a few dynamic variables available – {first_name}, {email_address}, {phone}, {affiliate_link}, and much more.

To make email marketing more powerful, you can club them with Kartra’s sequences. For sending broadcasts and email sequences, you can trigger the rules like –

  • Signing in for an opt-in.
  • Adding a tag.
  • Adding to the list.
  • Triggering page visits.
  • Ordering pages.
  • Etc.

CRM

ClickFunnels 2.0 has a CRM tool built-in that helps you manage all the customer details in one place. With this, you can keep track of all the page visits and customer activities.

For each contact, it gives details on their activities, notes you added, workflows & broadcasts they are in, their orders, fulfillments, enrollments, etc.

Winner: Kartra. Kartra excels over ClickFunnels with its email split testing, follow-up emails, lead scoring, lead tagging, lists, etc. With ClickFunnels, you can expect more features to come.

Marketing and checkout feature

Kartra has excellent marketing features compared to ClickFunnels. Its Behavioral adaptive marketing is a game-changer.

With this, you can show the elements to the target audience based on their previous behavior on your site. You can add conditions to display different elements, page sections, texts, and colors, to the people looking at their activities.

For example – If you have a health and fitness website, you can show different pages to people based on their age groups. This helps in showing the right content to the right people, which in turn increases conversions.

ClickFunnels lacks this feature.

There is also a dynamic OTOs feature available in both tools. With this, you can sell offers like upsell, downsells, or order bumps. With Kartra, you can show different OTOs to the audience based on their previous purchases. ClickFunnels allows you to offer OTOs by creating funnels, but it doesn’t track users’ behavior.

Both these have built-in checkouts to collect payments. ClickFunnels provides integrations with –

With Kartra and ClickFunnels you can sell both digital and physical products. Both of them support tax handling, inventory management, and orders.

ClickFunnels 2.0 is eCommerce compatible. It has a built-in eCommerce site builder so you can build the entire website with ClickFunnels. The same is the case with Kartra.

Both have a shopping cart and checkout page to accept payments directly within the tool.

There’s more.

ClickFunnels 2.0 has introduced a customer center. It is nothing but an online store portal where you can display all the products.

Winner: Kartra. Kartra excels over ClickFunnels with its dynamic OTOs and Behavioral adaptive marketing feature. If you have an eCommerce store, BAM helps in getting more sales and conversions.

Affiliate marketing

Both Kartra and ClickFunnels 2.0 has affiliate programs built in. ClickFunnels is working on rolling out this feature, and it will be live soon. Once it goes live will keep it updated here.

Kartra’s affiliate program is more powerful. You can set global affiliate commissions or product-specific commission rates. Also, it supports multiple commission tiers.

To qualify the affiliates, you can create a questionnaire and get their insights on how they can promote your products.

You can also make use of Kartra’s tags and list features to properly manage the affiliates.

With Kartra’s affiliate analytics, you can analyze how your affiliates are performing. It gives you the metrics like active affiliates, traffic, EPC, sales, refunds, etc. (Refer to the above screenshot).

Kartra is more affordable than ClickFunnels. Its premium pricing starts at $99/mo, allowing you to sell 20 products, host 100 pages, host 50 videos, build 2 membership sites, etc.

While ClickFunnels 2.0 premium pricing starts at $147/mo. Unlike Kartra, it supports unlimited products, unlimited pages, and workflows.

If you need Kartra’s agency feature, you must choose its Silver plan, which costs $199/mo. This plan supports unlimited products, videos, pages, etc.

Kartra and ClickFunnels discount:

ClickFunnels, as of now, doesn’t offer any discount. While Kartra offers a 25% discount on its annual plans.

With this, you can save up to $1440/year. On the Starter plan, you can save $240/year. While on its highest Platinum plan, you can save $1440/year.
