Fashion and Styles for Grooms

How do you make the Groom stand out in a typical Indian wedding? The perfect attributes of an immaculately turned out Indian groom are a richly embroidered sherwani, a stole worn around the neck, mojdis (traditional Indian footwear) and a stylish safa or turban with a jewelled brooch or kalgi pinned in the front or a feather perched on the top. It is a big day for the groom.

The groom’s wedding attire should not only be stylish and beautiful but should be comfortable as well. We have always thought that choosing the bride’s jewellery, her outfits, make-up artist was important. But the groom should also be a centre of attraction. We should give more time on choosing the sherwani of the groom. Did you ever think that the safa (the headgear) the groom wears should be chosen with great care and delicacy? There are innumerable styles of safas.

The safa should be chosen according to the groom’s height and complexion. The kalgi on the safa adds to its look. Take a kalgi with a nice emerald with kundan work. It looks very beautiful and enhances the looks of the groom.

The groom is equally pressurised for choosing his attire as is the bride. Choosing the sherwani according to the latest fashion & style should be done by following the big designers on Google, Facebook, Instagram. Follow the fashion & style that suits your own personality. You should stand out in the outfit.

Safa, the turban or the headgear grabs instant attention. The groom should wear the safa in a different style that suits his face. It should not be too big for his head. It should be appropriate. The colour of the safa can be a contrast of the outfit. The kalgi adds a super look to the safa. Take a kalgi with a nice emerald and Swarovski. In our tradition father and nearest uncles and cousins also wear safas.

Give importance to the style you are choosing for them. As the barat enters the whole attention goes directly on the safas. So be extra careful in making it special and giving a stylish look.

The Indian wedding (a big day for the groom) is not just for 1 day but lasts for at least 7 days. So the groom please be sure that you have the outfits not only for the wedding day but also for other occasions as

Celebrate the bachelor party –

Wear a T-shirt with a Groom written on it. Wear a nice trouser.

The cocktail party-

Cocktail party is a song and dance night where the entire family comes together and it is a close gathering. The groom can wear a bandhgala jacket or a smart blazer with trousers. If it is a winter wedding a quilted jacket in dark colours with gold buttons can add class to the attire.

Haldi Ceremony –

It is held during day time with close friends and family members only. Bright colours can be worn for this function. A nice kurta and churidar along with a waistcoat can be worn by the groom on this day.

There can be some embroidery on the waistcoat or with some fancy buttons on it. The other option is plain kurta & churidar with a light coloured stole.

Ring ceremony, Sangeet and Sagan –

Exchange of rings takes place between the girl and the boy. A semi traditional look like a fitted jacket with Patiala salwar can be chosen. The outfit should be comfortable to shake a leg with friends and family. Traditional clothes like achkans and sherwanis in white, cream, gold, maroon and beige look very elegant and bright and are best worn for traditional ceremonies.

A well embroidered silk churidar kurta is the ideal outfit to wear for a sangeet party or a mehendi ceremony. Cotton silk fabric is a good choice for the summer season. For winter weddings raw silk, velvet fabric can be chosen. A jacket made of brocade does not require any work on it as it is rich looking by itself. Another option can be a bandhgala jacket with smart trousers.

To sum up, wedding day is a big day for the groom.
