Review: Mi The Salon – Korean Gloss Anti Frizz Treatment

Tags: hair treatment

So it’s no hidden fact that I love having wavy/curled Hair, but those permed curls can get drier and more damaged as time goes by, especially after I go for colouring sessions to add more chemicals. My usual solution is just to wait it out, and cut it off several (damaged) inches at a time, but it can be a painstakingly long and arduous process – I wish I could do something like sing to my hair to make it grow faster or something. heh. Anyhoows, I think I may have found another solution!

Mi The Salon has a new Treatment called the Korean Gloss Anti Frizz Treatment – it’s said to be one of its kind. Using a patented formulation, this water-based treatment is supposed to bring a healthy, radiant shine to hair (be it natural, colour-treated or chemically processed hair). To put it simply in layman terms, just imagine a filler treatment for your hair – where the hair strand has been stripped of the internal building blocks (swiss cheese hair), this treatment fills in the gaps so that the strand is stronger and healthier from within. Plus, it’s said to last up to 3 months and cut your blow drying hair by 50%. Let’s put these claims to the test!

Mi The Salon is located at 2 Orchard Turn, ION Orchard, #03-19, 238801. Tel: 6884 7757

A grand-looking corridor with product displays leading into the waiting area as well as the treatment areas.

And here is where you wait – but I didn’t have to. I was led directly to my seat

The treatment essentially is a short and sweet one that’s done in 3 steps:

  1. CLEANSE: A clarifying shampoo is used to remove salt and prep your hair for better absorption
  2. APPLY : A water-based treatment formula is spread evenly through your hair
  3. SEAL IN: Protein, keratin and collagen are sealed into your hair with a ceramic flat iron

Here I am after my hair wash – Am so loving the ajumma-style clear visor that keeps my bangs outta my face (and away from the oily forehead) whilst the treatment is being applied and set. Since my hair was pretty damaged, and I do have rather thick and long hair, there was some expected amount of tugging/detangling that had to be done during the application. It’s a white cream that’s applied onto your hair from a syringe, and then combed through and left to set. Following this, a ceramic flat iron was used on my hair – note that there is no need to rinse the treatment off.

And voila – this is my hair immediately after the treatment.

Verdict:

The treatment itself is fuss-free and easy – I was in and out in 1 hour max.

Yes, it looks very straight, healthy and glossy. And definitely frizz free – yay!

It’s been more than a month, and my hair is still smooth and healthier looking – there’s a definite shine.

It’s worth mentioning that even though it’s mentioned that this is suitable for permed hair, my permed curls seemed to have disappeared. My previous perm was from the ear downwards. Right now, only the bottom 2 inches or so are curled inwards (kinda like the Korean C-curls). I’m not too fussed about this, since having healthy-looking hair with curled ends is much better than a frizzy full head of semi-curls. That said, if you have freshly-permed hair, you might want to wait a few months before doing this treatment.

The downside is the aftermath – in order to let the protein and hydrolyzed collagen set in thoroughly, you are recommended not to wash your hair for 72 hours. That’s 3 whole days, in this sunny and humid climate. I went 2 days before I couldn’t take the greasy feels (I did liberally spray on dry shampoo to help abate that situation), and washed it off.

Would I do it again? Yes, if I need to correct the damage caused by colouring, and if I didn’t have freshly curled hair.

ARE THE CLAIMS FOR REALS?

  • Frizz free hair days! Frizziness eliminated by 90% – yep!
  • More volume – fuller looking hair, boosted with hydrolysed keratin and marine collagen – so-so on this. I’ve always had rather voluminous hair, and because the hair strands are now so sleek and smooth, I found my hair looking flatter than usual tho (but not to the extent of that “rebonded” look).
  • More convenience – cut down blow drying time by 50% – yep!
  • Look better – 3x more shine and moisture – double yep! My hair no longer looks frizzy and in need of some intense hydration in photos.
  • Longevity – Result that lasts up to 3 months with recommended homecare – somewhat yep. It’s been 2 months and my hair still looks pretty good.
